Got the second urine sample easily from Pipsqueak this morning YAY . He is soooooooooo good. I just followed him to the box (he always goes in the morning just before he eats) and he dug his little hole and turned around, and at that time I put the sterile small container in his stream and it was easy as that . What a good boy. I just got back from dropping it off. I think the color looked better, but will be anxiously waiting for the results later today. He has been on an all wet diet now and hopefully that has helped. Although, he is still the high-strung boy he has always been, always on patrol....

His poops have been better too. He refuses to eat the pumpkin, no matter what I put it in . But, now I just mix some metamucil twice daily in his wet food and that seems to be helping.

I can't imagine catching one of my cats mid-stream to obtain a urine sample. I've left them at the vet's office for an entire day while he tried to get a sample from them and they just will not co-operate.
Pipsqueak is truly a good boy.
Hope the urinalysis results come back soon, and that Mr. Pip is A-OK.

I am trying not to cry, but blood is still the same level. NO crystals present at all, PH was 6. I am sick with worry right now. . Pipsqueak goes in on THursday for an xray of the bladder to check for stones. My poor baby, I don't know what to do. He really seemed to me to be feeling better. Playing hard during our play sessions, eating better. I sincerely appreciate all of your vibes for him.

Oh sweetie, I can just imagine how you're feeling right now - especially as everything pointed to him feeling better! Of course - that DOES mean he IS feeling better, and so whatever is going on... isn't causing him the same kind of discomfort. That's important.

whatever is causing this is easily diagnosed, and easily treatable!

Aww,HECK!!!!!! I know you'll be on pins and needles until you know more. Worry is no fun.

Of course LDG is right, he's better because he is acting in a manner to show you he is better. Try not to overreact, hard as that is.

Aw Lauren, I know that's not the news you wanted to hear, but things could be worse. Pip is acting better because he's feeling better. I know it's easy to say 'don't worry', but honey, it sounds as if you have a good vet and you are definitely on top of this situation.
Wish I could give you a big hug and tell you eveything will be ok. Try not to worry---you don't want Pip picking up on your stress. He'll be fine, I know he will. Sending you a cyber-hug and some 'healthy kitty' vibes for Mr. Pipsqueak.

THANKS my friends You have no idea how your replies picked me up. I was so down in the dumps after that phone call from the vets office earlier. I went and sat on the bed with Pip when he was napping and cried a little, but I don't want him to pick up on my emotions as he is already so intuned to me and gets easily stressed. We are best friends, me and Pipsqueak!!! He is my shadow all day long and is never far from me. It makes me realize that sometimes I have taken him for granted, that he will always be there...sometimes he is a little pest too And I have to tell him to take a : I have never had a cat quite like him, with all of his goofy ways and silly antics. He has never been sick, he will be five in September, so this is a bit of a surprise and I have to wonder if he has been suffering with this for sometime . He is such a good boy and has not had an accident outside of the box. He is my little trooper, but will be one unhappy little trooper on Thursday. I drop him off close to 10 a.m. and they will try do get him done quickly so he doesn't have to stay so long. I really do have a great vet and he is very supportive. OK...... deep breath, and I will try not to overreact. It is funny how easily I have been able to help other's on TCS with health issues with their cats trying to get them to stay positive, but when it is your own cat, boy, the tables turn and it is freak out time

I am feeling better thanks to your support. The care and concern is so heartwarming to me and can I say, I all of you!!

Sorry, but you'll have to tell them, absolutely not. That is not the way to go. I'll explain in a second. Right now, question: has a bacterial infection been confirmed and has a culture and sensitivity test shown the correct antibiotic needed if there was an infection? Have follow up tests been done to find out what the antibiotic that was finished on Sunday did in this situation? (Normally these tests are done three days after the antibiotic is finished.)

X-rays are quite unreliable when it comes to showing stones. Stones may or may not show up on X-rays. The only reliable test for finding stones is an ultrasound. Also, it might be necessary to take a good look at the bladder wall (with a special test). In addition, in some cats an anatomic defect (or bladder or urethra defects) might be involved. (I happen to know someone whose cat had that. She had to take the kitty to a specialist to find and correct the problem.)

One other thing. Allergy by itself can cause severe bladder irritation and bloody urine. (If allergy is the cause, all tests for crystals, stones, infection, etc, come back negative.)

I'm trying to say, many of these situations are anything but simple and quite often X-rays and urinalysis don't show enough for a correct diagnosis.

Stress can cause problems, but before concentrating on dealing with stress, every other possible underlying cause must be ruled out with the proper tests.

I'd like to encourage you to ask for, insist on, additional testing and do not agree to rely on whatever one X-ray might show plus the continued use of an antibiotic without doing anything else.

Thanks Violet! I did get your PM and replied back to you and attached the link to the other thread I just started this morning asking about antibiotic concerns. I surely appreciate all of your suggestions and I will take them to heart. I had no idea about possible allergies and that causing blood in urine. Oh boy, just something else to consider.

Doc tomorrow will do a needle draw directly into the bladder to send off to culture/sensitivity test. I asked them if they wanted me to get the urine sample the same way I got the last two and they said no because it has to be sterile for the culture. After that test is performed, we will then discuss further about medications. I do understand that an xray is not a hundred percent proof positive regarding stones, but I have to start somewhere and I guess that is the normal protocol. I could have bypassed the xray and just asked Doc to refer me to the specialist for the ultrasound. But I am going with the xray first, and then can always do the ultrasound for the next step.

Thanks SOOO much! I was thinking I must be losing my mind and I was going crazy. Now I can breathe again. THANKS!

Anyway, my poor Bernie had the issue with allergies. Until we knew for sure we had many trips to our vet as emergency vet visits (the hospital we go to always fits pets in immediately when they have a urinary issue). And it was then I learned never, ever to accept an antibiotic without test results. And my vet taught me some things I could not have learned anywhere else, ever.

Anyway, allergy might not be the issue with your baby, but I mentioned it as one possibility because it's very real and it needs to be kept in mind.

I realize it's not easy to let your vet know what you want done as far as tests are concerned but you have to do it. This is one area where you can't afford to have anything overlooked.
So please, please, please, don't let your vet talk you out of an ultrasound and again, don't accept any more antibiotics without further testing. If you need to be careful about the money you're spending, I can only urge you to do the ultrasound instead of the X-ray. Please, please, trust me on this.

I'm sending you many, many heartfelt get well wishes for your baby.

Thanks Violet . I hear you and will take what you say to heart, believe me. I have been with this particular vet for eighteen years and I trust him completely. He has never steered me wrong and has always willingly accepted me getting second opionions and even listens to me when I research things on the internet. He always answers my questions, even when those questions are questioning what he is doing . I have thought of bypassing the xray and going straight to the ultrasound. But I have decided to go with the xray first anyway. I do have a cash stash (stuffed in my mattress ) saved up for my pets medical/emergency care, BUT I know that can be drained fairly quickly with a sick pet, as I currently have an aging dog with health issues . My current vet does not have the diagnostics to do an ultrasound on-site, so I would have to go to the specialists for that. Doc would probably recommend it as well, especially if the xray doesn't show stones, or the stones that don't reflect back from a normal xray. I will ask about "contrast" for the xray in the morning when I drop Squeak off. And, yes, Squeak will not be put on another round of antibiotics until the culture comes back. Just got Squeak home. I guess he was a very, very good patient and they said they wish there were more like him . Although, once home, he did release his anals upon exiting his crate, and some got on my arm... YUK! He turned and looked at me as if to say " That's for taking me to the vet, AGAIN!!!!! The little stinker.....

The 2 xrays showed no stones, so that is some good news, and I guess I am not surprised as this is sometimes the case. I just want some answers, though They did get the sterile urine sample and are sending it out for culture and sensitivity testing. Result will come back in about 5 - 7 days. So just more waiting at this point. I am hoping to get some answer from that culture as this is making for a very stressful time for me, and Squeak too. If the culture comes back negative, then we discuss the next step in our quest to get his bladder healthy and feeling 100%. He is not on any meds at the moment. And I am just pumping as much water in him as I can. He is starting to love his water-downed wet food and seems to enjoy licking up the "gravy". Thanks again, dear friends, for you care and concern. It means so much to me and to Pipsqueak too!

What a good little boy at the vets The anal gland was just a favor mom, nothing but a favor

You just have to wait now, I know how hard that is.... There are some good anti-inflamatory supplements available if you want to look into those and discuss them with your vet.

It's good the x-rays were clear, but the waiting and the not knowing is the hardest part, I know. Just be aware you're not alone - we're all waiting and hoping here with you!

Did the vet refer you to get an ultrasound while you wait for the results of the urine culture? Or just wait and see if there's anything percolating in there before taking on the expense of looking for stones that may not be there?

Believe me, Lauren, I know how hard it is to wait for test results. I also know this is easier said than done, but try not to dwell on it. As long as Squeak seems to be feeling good, there's not much you can do. Hopefully the culture & sensitivity tests will come thru quickly and give you some answers. You and the Squeak-ster are in my prayers.

I just logged on to the site to see all of your wonderful, supportive replies. It really made me feel stronger and I thank you for that


Marina - I will definitely call tomorrow and ask about some anti-inflammatory remedies. That might help him out, alot. I know alot of people have mentioned Cosequin, and I forgot to ask the vet, so I will ask about that tomorrow too.

Laurie - Doc said we will wait for the culture to come back first and then will proceed to the next step from there, the ultrasound at the specialist.

I made some fun vertical space changes for the cats today. I will have to get some pictures and post them. I don't know why I never thought of this before. We have vaulted ceilings and there are some built in oak wooden valances/shelves up high on the walls that run about six feet both ways out of a corner. They are about seven inches wide too, just perfect. I moved one of my cat furniture pieces up against the wall so they can jump from the top of that to the valance. At the moment, Perla and Squeak are resting up there in their glory. Perla won't let her brother's up there, but Squeak, of course, since he is the boss of the house. He is a very happy boy tonight, thank goodness. I love him sooooooo much and will do whatever I have to, no matter what, to get to the bottom of his problem.

I also went out and bought another Platinum Drinkwell fountain today. Petsmart has them on sale for $59.99. So I have one downstairs in the basement and upstairs now and hopefully Pipsqueak will drink even more
