Woohoo! I stopped by my veterinarian's office with a question this morning. Lisa said "Did you see our kittens?" (Remember last fall / winter when I was playing with feral kittens to calm them down to be more adoptable?) These are four little fuzzballs. Three purred and snuggled in my arms as soon as I picked them up. The fourth looked at me with those big kitten eyes. So sweet!

Then Lisa says, "Would you like to foster them for the holiday weekend?"

Came home. Told husband. He's not thrilled but said if I wanted to, O.K.

So tomorrow morning I go pick up four adorable little catkins. The office will provide a litter pan, litter, food, feeding dishes. Return them on Tuesday.

It will be so much fun - Mist is 16 years old. Mr. Poe and Domino are 9 months. These four are fluffy little babies.

So just for a few days we'll have 7 cats and kittens in the house. I'm not really a crazy cat lady, honestly, I'm not.

Pictures tomorrow. If I can put them down long enough.

Four kittens are more fun than double two kittens (which I've always said are four times as much fun as one. Who is good at math and can figure out what four are equivalent to . . .)

Two gray and white, two stripey. I can tell them apart but need to look closely at the pairs.

These little guys are so sweet. Suddenly Mr. Poe and Domino look huge by comparison. And no, don't worry. The kittens are in a separate room. Doesn't seem reasonable to introduce everyone since it is only for three days.

And a good thing, too. If it was longer I might not want to say goodbye.

Well it has been both delightful and exciting.

One kitten started vomiting on Saturday afternoon. Not hairball type vomiting, sitting up with a distressed little mew, then vomiting clear semi-gelatinous fluid.

Called my vet on her cell phone, getting her more than 300 miles away on a road trip. She said it sounded like round worms. Give the vomiting kitten a little Karo syrup and go to Wal-mart for Nemex, trade name pyrantal. Kittens about 2 pounds each, dose on that basis.

Dinner delayed, off to Wal-mart, no Nemex. They had something else, piperazine. Called her back. Old type wormer she said, but safe to use.

Home again. feed husband. Collect all four kittens into bathroom - if one has worms they all have worms. Dosed everybody. Of course the vomiting kitten promptly threw up. Thought about it, dosed him again.

Later that evening he threw up a dead round worm.

Today, Sunday, he's eating, wrestling with his brothers, climbing onto the bed, just fine.

And I got a call this morning from one of the staff to see how the kittens were, how I was, and did I want to return the kittens.

I said we were all doing just fine. And that I was really glad that I had the kittens here, so was on top of it. Much better than if they'd been caged at the animal hospital and alone overnight until someone came to feed them this morning.

Altogether too exciting.

They are really adorable, affectionate little kittens and yes, it will be difficult to give them up.

But the Glorious Fourth will arrive in July. Want to bet that these guys will be in their forever homes by then (do hope they go two by two) and I might have other furry house guests in a couple of months?

I went into the room, sat down, and all four came running over to me. Climbed in my lap, one up on my shoulder, all four purring away.

So I collected food dishes, litter pan, remaining dry and canned food. Loaded stuff into my car.

Back upstairs, scooped up an armload of kittens and boxed them up.

They went back to the vet hospital this morning.

Bathroom is cleaned, guestroom floor is mopped, throw rugs and lap robe chugging around in the washer.

Very cute, extremely loving - and lovely - little kittens. Whoever gets them will be fortunate.
