Free Roaming Housecats and Feral Cats

An interesting article on the roaming habits of free roaming housecats and non owned feral cats. All of my cats are strictly indoor but I was really surprised by how far the free roaming housecats went considering how much they sleep.

Cool, thanks for sharing.

Yup, I'm not a fan of indoor-outdoor cats, but one thing is for sure is that they get a LOT more exercise than luxury inside loafers.

Unfortunately, that also often represents crossing a LOT of streets, and getting into areas that could be quite dangerous.

Yikes, that is a big area!

Glad mine don't go that far. Guess it's because they're fixed.

That's an interesting study. Our last cat was born and lived in a feral colony for 8 years. He didn't become tame in the 6 years we had him and really wandered. He was "fixed" when he was over 8. My husband regularly saw him in a town 6 km from here, and our next-door neighbor spotted him in a town twice that distance. She called me, and when I went to check it out, to my consternation it really was him. His "hunting" primarily consisted of stealing food from carts in supermarket parking lots.

Miezi spends most of the day outside but rarely goes more than 2 blocks, usually just a block, and rodents are her main prey.
