Hitting the Gym- Your Daily Workout

I know we had a thread like this before to keep each other motivated, but it was super long and hasn't been looked at in a long time- so I figured I'd start a new one!

HEY GUYS! At the risk of sounding like a walking advertisement, I just started a gym membership with one of those itty bitty gyms that has like 13759723285 locations around the city- and I really love it. If you're even considering a gym membership, give it a shot!! SnapFitness is offering a free month right now.

I usually do 20m a day on the elliptical and then focus on either my legs or arms for weight training- what's your routine?

I go to Zumba several times a week- its sooooooo much fun you barely realize you are working out!!!! I have so much more endurance and feel better overall. My body and mind are strong and happy

Gym? What's a gym?

Seriously need to find something that I will stick to though. I'm beyond out of shape...I need something mild that I can really enjoy... Like Richard Simmons sweatin to the oldies or something! I have so far to go just the thought of starting is overwhelming. It's my biggest flaw.

Haha, aww! I know the feeling, though- I was afraid to do anything because I used to be a runner, but now I can't even run two miles without developing awful shin splints. You might find you like an exercise bike or something like that- just sit back and pedal!

Today I spent 8 hours walking at a fast pace, climbing ladders, and lifting heavy buckets and boxes. OK, so I mixed about 200 gallons of paint today and restocked the shelves in the paint department where I work. I get paid for my daily workout!

HEY!!! The thread wasn't that long ago!!! In fact, I wasn't even the one who started the thread, but posted alot and tried to keep it going.

I am a workoutaholic. I just started a new workout by Jillian Micheals, Ripped in 30...... You want a kick butt workout, super hard-core, you must try this one. I have worked out to THE FIRM for many years, but Jillian's workouts are hard core........ Also, Larry just got us one of those scales that gives you weight, BMI, viseral fat, skeletal muscle, body fat, body real age!!!!!! Just crazy. I have a bit of work to do and would like to lose ten pounds, decrease my body fat back down below 20% within two months. A big family reunion this summer. So Let's Get started

I didn't see it on the first two pages! I guess I didn't look hard enough? BUT the more threads the merrier, because they all contain great information on how to get in shape and stay that way!!

Zumba is basically like super charged aerobic dancing- Here's an excerpt I copied from the studio I go to website:

"What is Zumba? Zumba is hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away. The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Together we can make you look and feel amazing by just dancing!"

By the end of class I am always drenched in sweat and feeling great lol. My friends and I are pretty much addicted to Zumba The classes I go to are an hour long and they just keep playing songs straight through and there's a different routine for each song. There are also some classes that are toning and we use weights. And one class they do is mixed up with toning/zumba and kickboxing!!!! Those really give you a great workout!!!

I have been really busy lately. Wednesday night, DH and I jogged to the grocery store to get some chicken thighs and we jogged back.

Last night I was busy...but tonight we will likely hit the gym. I will do elliptical for 30 minutes, and then weight training.

What a riot. Sounds like a great workout. I will be looking into finding a class near me next week. Thanks for mentioning Zumba

Now, down to the "dungeon" for my 30 day Ripped DVD. Then a twenty minute power bike ride around my neighborhood. !!!!!!!!!!!!

Woot, just got back from the gym! 20 on the elliptical and some weight training, baby! I love the little machine where you sit down and brace your feet against a platform and push it away from you. Feels great on the thighs! And then I tried to use one of the arm-workout machines and found out I was too short to reach up and grab the bar while sitting down. Either way, it was a good day!

Zumba is all the rage here! But I'm such a terrible dance I don't dare try it in public! I can't even get with it on regular workout dvds let alone dance ones!

Have any of you heard of or tried that Insanity program? The ad for it always comes on after Whos Line is it Anyway at 1am on ABC family. I fell asleep on the couch with that on last night and kept dreaming about it.

Another successful day at the gym, despite my sunburn Twenty on the bike this time, then did some reps on the arm machines. I am such a WEAKLING! There was this gorgeous woman who was lifting like 100lbs, and I'm all like hi, I can lift 40...

I'm looking to do the same!! When my grandmother (mom's mom) died, I really kind of let myself go and gained about 25lbs. That combined with my shin splints... getting back in shape has been so hard.

BUT!!! I am MOTIVATED!!! I'm going to an anime convention in Baltimore called Otakon, and I am going to look FABULOUS for it. YES!!!!

What exactly does Ripped in 30 entail? Is it something you can do at home without machines?
Lately I've been doing Bikram Yoga (hot yoga, room set at 105ºF at 40-50% humidity for 90 minutes) 2-3x a week. Trying to get on the treadmill more and back into my pole routine with my friend. Also taking a gymnastics (yes, 15 years late on this ) class every Saturday.

Was thinking of trying Zumba, a friend of mine is certified to instruct and is starting on 6/7, so I may take a class and see what I think.
Since I am on my feet all day, I like the weights. You get to sit down!!!

But I tried a gym membership and found I really don't like working out with other people around. At that time, my son had a weight machine. So I just used it here.

But, I think I get enough exercise just working about the house and property. And soon, I will be cleaning a horse stall and pushing the wheelbarrow up a ramp to empty, and lugging a saddle about and lifting it up onto our horse.

Actually that's the kind of exercise I like!

GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!! You can do it, and so can I (). Well, Ripped in 30 by Jillian Micheals is a four week intensive program. Of course, you have to "kinda" watch your calories too. But it is four twenty-five minute workouts that all build and get tougher week by week. I like the fact that it is about 1/2 the time as my FIRM workouts and SOOOOOOOO much harder. Sweat like crazy and moan and groan. and I might throw in a few "foul" words here and there. I am pretty sore this morning, started week three on Sunday. I do six days a week. You can buy the DVD for only about $12.00 (YAY) at Target or probably Walmart too. You should check it out. She is a killer trainer........ but she makes me laugh too.....

GOSH, I miss those horsey days and barn work. My fear was since selling my horse last November and no longer "working" off the board for my horse, I would gain weight. Barn chores are a great workout. I still ride and train a friend's horse, but it is not the same calorie burning work as having your own horse...... Congratz on your horse (if you found one yet ) and new exercise program

Well, I have come down with a really, really nasty cold... so unfortunately no gym for me today. The only workout I'm gonna be doing is getting up for more kleenex and cough drops!

Good luck everyone!

Has anyone tried the Zumba Total Transformation DVDs ?

I bought this set the other day, and all that has come up so far is "Exercise Live" background music. Where do I go for a basics “workout” where it teaches individual moves working up to the full dance step ? And btw, my dvd player doesn't even have a menu function or title button. ...

Is anyone like me where they can't do Zumba? I must have awful coordination but it goes too fast for me and I can't follow the workouts from the DVDs :/ and I can't even imagine going to class and embarassing myself
Today I'm going for a walk with my dad, meeting him at the park during his lunch break. After that I think I will do insanity. I dunno if the park thing is a good idea in this heat but we will see how it goes
post #25 of 54
I haven't tried Zumba yet, so can't say . But I would love to get the DVD if there is one ??? Because, I workout at home. My daily schedule is so different from day to day that I have to workout whenever I can and don't want to have to go to a class with a scheduled time. I am determined to lose those TEN pounds.....

Believe me- I know the steps look fast!!! I find it easier to go to a live class rather do the DVDS. If you have any questions the teacher will show you the steps. There was one step I was constantly trying to keep up with but once she showed me how it was really done it was SOOOO much easier. Also, you will build up endurance and speed the more you do it. At first it might feel hard to keep up....but you will get there!!! Don't give up!!!

Since I don't have a gym membership insanity is perfect for me as mydaily workout, especially since the weather doesn't really allow running or walking outside at this point.
I will also try to get more Zumba DVD's and give it another try...
I hate working out in the summer, I get so lazy because of the heat. I feel like my body is expending enough calories just in trying to cool itself down.

The temp is pretty similar to summer weather where I live It certainly makes you feel like you did an insane workout, because you're sweating within 5 minutes!!

I had to take five days off to get over my cold, but I was back at it today with 30m on the bike and then my usual arm/leg reps! Ugh, I hope I didn't lose much progress this week...

You don't have to do the steps perfectly. Just move to the music - it's intoxicating... And when I get bored - back the stationary bike for an hour with a book. lol.
