Your purpose in life

What do you think you purpose in life is? Is it to be with your kitty's?
Call me nihilistic, but I don't believe my life has any purpose.

That is not to say that I'm in any way depressed though, and on the plus side this frees me up to do whatever I feel like doing at any given time without restraint. I give my kitties love because doing so brings me entertainment, companionship, a connection to nature, and pride as a provider since I have no other dependents.

I don't think anyone has a "purpose" in life. That would mean your life was predetermined.

However, I do believe in potential and I believe everyone has the potential inside them to do and be anything that they want.

Yeah, I just wanted to know your opinions. It's very interesting.

I do feel my purpose here is to be the best person I can be. It is hard work some days I like animals but I also like people and I like life and I am glad to be living each day, I consider each day a blessing.
My animals are great and they tend to bring out the best in me

It's so true. My cats bring out the best in me too.
When I'm upset all I have to do is look at one of my two cats and they just make me better instantly.

I don't think each of us as an individual is placed here for a specific purpose -- but I think all of us as human beings are here to learn to love selflessly. Brotherly love, romantic love, humanitarian love for our fellow beings... if we can all get that right, we will make a heaven of earth.

I don't feel I know the true answer but I think CarolPetunia might be on to something. There's a quote from Marianne Williamson, here's part of it: Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

So perhaps one of my main goals is to reach a point in life where I'm not scared of my "light"? I know I am ultra selective about who I give my "light" to because of past vampires. I seem to be a super sized magnet for vampires (also known as "takers" in the givers-vs.-takers dichotomy) and I hate that.

I truly believe that my purpose in life is to foster and to help as many kitties find wonderful, forever homes as possible. Nothing makes me happier.

Giving kitties a home is great because you're making them feel loved instead of being in a small cage and running a risk of not being bought then put down.

I am a Christian. I believe my purpose is to live my life dedicated to serving Jesus. According to the Bible, Christians have a commission and that is to spread the gospel of Jesus. That is my purpose. I realize my answer might ring controversy, but you asked and I answered, hopefully without offense to anyone

I believe that people do have a "calling" and are drawn to that calling naturally. I feel the same way as Kailie. Helping to make the lives of abandoned, stray, abused, neglected, unloved cats is my calling in life.. It means everything to me to watch that cat come out of depression and despair, come out of their shell and blossum into good health and happiness. I just wish I could help more of them. I can't imagine my life any other way.

To take in stray cats or, if I can no longer do that, help people get theirs to a good home. Actually, I've been doing that for a few months now!

Taking in my cats has been the most gratifying thing I've ever done. Every one I have was a stray, a feral and/or abused. I've given them the best life I could, and tons of love and attention. Being a cat in our house ain't exactly a bad thing! :-)

I don't know that I think we're here "to learn to love selflessly," though I think it's what gets us released from here.... because I see the world through the eyes of The Tao (so to speak), I don't think heaven on Earth is possible. "Heaven" can't exist within the confines of time by definition (in my understanding of the universe).

I love the way you put this! I don't know if you'd agree, but the way I'd come to think about it is working on overcoming fear. I thought the movie "Defending Your Life" (Albert Brooks, Merilyn Streep) was brilliant, and it pretty much "verbalized" the way I see our existence on Earth.

I also believe people have a "calling" naturally. How do you explain the Mozarts of the world if that's not the case? Some are born with that calling at their fingertips - others have to "unlayer" their "onions" - find their light - overcome their fears - open themselves to universal love - insert appropriate thoughts/words - to answer that call.

I believe I am supposed to be a caregiver, human, feline, whatever. Many times in my life I have been put in the position of caring for elderly or sick family members, and poor kitties that nobody else wanted. I was an EMT, a massage therapist, now I spend a lot of my days taking people to doctor's appointments, helping them shop sometimes, running the occasional errand. We are warned not to get close to the DSS patients, that they will either use you or break your heart. The woman that owns the company is a very cold, cynical woman, and I find that very sad.
I am not a church goer, but I am Christian, and I believe you reap what you sow.

I couldn't have said it any better. That is my purpose also. From DH being an Usher at our church to me being a Greeter, I live my life for Jesus.

Just to clarify -- I didn't mean "heaven" in the literal, biblical sense... just a better world.

Not sure if it is a purpose in life but my aim is to help as many cats as i can, whether that is by fostering or fundraising/donating to cat charities. If i had more money another aim would be to help more oldies
