Too Old to share Bowls?

Since these munchkins were kittens, they have always eaten from the same dish or dry bowl and shared pretty evenly.

For the first time today, I noticed that Buttercup was a hog and while she wasn't in any way hostile to Wesley who LOVES food and needs to eat more than her since he's a bigger male, Wesley just backed off and waited for her to finish... at which point there wasn't anything left! And I know he was hungry as he started trying to figure out how to get more food from the auto-feeder.

Perhaps just a fluke, but now that they are well over a year old, do you think they are just getting too old to share?

Not necessarily too old to share, but from a nutrition standpoint, you might want to consider separate bowls for each one so that you know that they are both getting their required amount.

I have a 13 hour shift, and some nights I go out and don't return until very late for my hungry-hungry hippos.

Hence the auto-feeder for dry, but I can't have miss piggy schnarfing it all down with kermit just standing there slackjawed and then hungry heheh.

If its not a common issue, I'm thinking I may either just observe more to see if its a fluke, and if not either design a chute that approximately splits the food into two bowls, or purchase a second feeder that will go off simultaneously so each has their own if they really have to be very far apart.

I would get two feeders. It is a good idea to get a webcam if you can to see who is eating what.

I would get another feeder. You want to make sure both kitties are eating.

I just wanted to add that I have two kitties. They each have their own bowls (water and food) on opposite sides of the kitchen. They will eat and drink from each others bowls but for the most part they each sit in front of their own when they are waiting to be fed.

Well, these two are pretty attached. Tried giving Wesley a separate extra wet meal since he should eat more than her, but she desperately wanted in and even though he usually attacks food, he didn't want to eat without myself or her in the room with him for company and let it sit there for 15 mins. *facepalm*

BUT, I did get them their own bowls now via simultaneous feedings. They both disperse 1/4 cup within a second of each other. Working so far.
