...and I don't know if you can see it in this pic, but Tuxedo hopped up onto the back of the couch and laid down. He watched the birds and MaeMae for a while, then reached out his paw and put it on her little paws... that's this pic. He then laid his head down and fell asleep like that. It's one of those moments where I really get a lump in my throat....

I can guess it must be just so bittersweet to have to give her up. She is so adorable. I know you would keep her for sure if you had a larger home. A lot of people would keep her and not think about what is the best thing. I commend you on such a tough decision.

Nora, it was close. If we weren't positive she's going to a great home, I don't think we could do it. And though the gang's going to miss her... I'm sure things will calm down between them. We really do have space issues here (!), and though she's such a fun and sweet part of our lives now, all the cats (and Gary) will have some more space, and I'm sure a lot of the dickering that's started since she joined us will stop again. Although Gary's the one who keeps looking at her and saying "How can we give her up?" - he's also the one reminding me that we have to do what's right for ALL of the cats.

Besides.... Colby's going to send back her bed and snuggle kitty when she's comfy in her new home (which will probably take the little traitor all of a day or two at most - if not just a few hours. I just hope she misses us a LITTLE bit for a day or two!). But the point is we'll be ready again if duty calls....

She's so adorable. I wish you could keep her, because it's obvious that you love her a lot.

Do you still consider her a feral, even though you raised her, from a kitten? She's still a kitten, isn't she?

...and she doesn't even sleep in the oyster-shell bed anymore. But we're bringing it with her just in case she wants something snuggly and familiar to help with the transition.

What ALSO makes me both happy and sad is that I bet she'll just settle into her new home and family right away! I like to think we'd be missed... but I don't want her to be sad. You know - it's that selfish - but love her and want her just to be happy tug-of-war, LOL! She's just such a happy girl, and I think she was just too young to remember people being mean to her. She seems to think everybody's wonderful!

Hope, she is a kitten, but she's a feral kitten! Having been rescued so young might have made a difference in her socialization... but her mom was feral, so her genes are feral.

Some ferals are shy, and will always be wary or easily spooked. Others become playful, loving lap kitties. Part of it is their interaction with people - and part of it is just personality, plain and simple.

Heidi's on vacation so she can't pop in here, but I know her Ophelia was found by Heidi and hubby at a really young age, too. And she was all hiss and vinegar.

But you can see the feral in MaeMae. She's got those genes that tell her to bury her business really well. To clean herself thoroughly after a meal. To be scrupulous about both of these things.

All of our ferals - whether 12 weeks or 12 months when they came inside - became very "kitteny." They didn't get to be kittens when they were babies. They had to learn from mom how to hunt and be quiet and hide... The only difference for Mae is that she got to be a kitten when she was "supposed" to be one, and I think she was too young to remember her horrible experience with people being mean to her. And I think she was just born with a great personality!

When I saw the title of the thread I didn't even know if I could open it and read it without choking up. It's so apparant how much you and Gary love little MaeMae and how much you'll miss her. I don't know if I'd be able to foster her and then give her to a good home, but I know you're doing what's best for her and your other babies as well. And it's great that Colby is going to take her. She'll be going to a good home and you won't have to worry about her well-being.
(Oi, I'm tearing again.) I don't know if I'd be able to be as selfless as you and Gary are being, but MaeMae sure is lucky to have had you caring for her.

To say that I'm excited about giving Mae-Mae a home would be a gross understatement! I've been following her story and eating up all the pics of her. I love this thread because it's got tons of new photos!

I currently have 3 cats, the first 2 don't get along with the 3rd, copeland who is this incredibly sweet and affectionate little ball of love. She has bonded to my S/O who is leaving for 9 months in a couple weeks. I knew that she was going to be miserable once her best buddy leaves so I figured the best thing for her would be a friend.

I'm incredibly honored that Laurie would even consider me to adopt Mae. It's obvious how committed Laurie and Gary are to their animals, and how serious they take their care. I'm glad I made the cut!

I don't have a digital camera, but there will be no shortage of pics taken and I will do my best to get them posted.

I'm actually watching some cat trees on ebay. Going to buy one, just not sure which one. Want Mae to have a big brand new one!

Colby, I know because of work you don't get to post much - but keep an eye on all of us. So many of us that spend time here in the Lounge haven't gotten to know you as well as some of the other members of TCS - but you sure come with great references! And after writing and talking, there is not the slightest shred of doubt in my mind that MaeMae will be in a happy home, and in the long run it'll be so much better for her to be with you! Besides... maybe our (your) indominatable MaeMae will be able to draw your two shy rescues out of their shells a little bit. Either that or she'll completely terrorize them and you'll never see them again.
And from the sound of it, I think MaeMae and Copeland will get along famously. Although together I can just imagine the trouble they're going to get into....

...Not that Gary and I aren't good "parents". But she's going to keep growing, and I can just imagine the fights that would break out around here when she's actually big enough to fight back effectively. "Hey - I want that spot at the window." "No way! It's mine!" - Yeah - between five cats... in 210 sq. ft. it could get ugly. And we've already got lots of scratched noses going on!

So.... it's best for her. It's best for our other kitties. And it sounds like it's going to be great for Copeland. It seems like a real win-win situation.

...and she'll be spoiled rotten.

Colby - I don't know what the cat trees you already have are like - I expect you've already got sisal stuff. But I still haven't seen MaeMae scratch on anything but the sisal!

Laurie & Gary,

I know how hard this is going to be on the both of you. I know that if Gary is driving he is going to want to turn around and go back home a number of times. You and MaeMae have bonded, and you literally have saved her from hell which she endured in her first home. You went above and beyond the call of duty to get this kitten out of harm's way, and I will be eternally grateful.

When you told me that she was such a disruption to your routine, I understood. Been there done that, and doing that now. You two are at a disadvantage because of the limited space and the amount of cats you have there. When Colby told me she was looking for a pal for Copeland, the timing seemed perfect. I know that MaeMae will settle right in and be cherished just like Colby does with her other cats. I also know she will miss both of you Laurie, and she will remember you always- abused kitties always remember their saviour! I am so thrilled this has worked out, and envious that you get to meet Colby as well.

And Gary, when you drive, just keep looking forward and not back, it will be alright!

Colby MaeMae is a doll! Have fun at Kitty Terrorism Camp!

Omigosh. Maemae is such an angel. I know you and Gary are gonna miss her terribly, but in a sense you will still have her. We ALL have her really. I think that little wonder is shared through TCS.

My heartbreaks for her leaving her wonderful family, but it's comforting to know that she's going to another wonderful family to explore and have new play friends.

Ap, you are one lucky lady. Maemae is a true angel.
Please keep us posted on how she is and give us a few pictures when and if possible. I just know she'll love you and the rest of her new family tremendously.

Oh, this is such a sad/happy story! I am so pleased that you have found a new home, and a home where the little sweetie cat will be needed, as much as she needs a home! And she will still be part of the Cat Site family, we can keep hearing about how she grows. She is an absolute beauty! And I love the sleeping pictures best too. But I love any sleeping cat, they look like such angels.

And Colby, don't you think you will be needing a digital camera???? All of the cool cats have one.
