I ws sitting on my screened porch having my coffee this morning. Just outside is a pecan tree with a hole down one side. I kept seeing some movement in the tree and finally realized there was a bird there sticking its neck out that hole. I watched until I could see what it was. Our nearest neighbor has Muscovy ducks and it is one of his ducks sitting up there in that tree. I didn't know ducks could fly high enough to get in a tree. Does anyone know if they nest in trees.

I never knew what they were so I had to google them.....they are GORGEOUS birds, WOW.

"The hen lays a clutch of 8-16 white eggs, usually in a tree hole or hollow, which are incubated for 35 days. The sitting hen will leave the nest once a day from 20 minutes to one and a half hours, and will then defecate, drink water, eat and sometimes bathe. Once the eggs begin to hatch it may take 24 hours for all the chicks to break through their shells. When feral chicks are born they usually stay with their mother for about 10–12 weeks. Their bodies cannot produce all the heat they need, especially in temperate regions, so they will stay close to the mother especially at night."

That is truly interesting. I wish she had chosen another tree in my yard. The pecan tree is the only one inside the fence where my cats live in the daytime. If those little ones fall out of the tree, well lunch for my cats. I don't know what to do about that except if they are there, maybe they will come out at night.
