my Cat is 1 yr old, and has been fixed, she has been for some time now, since she was around 5 mo. old, she just walked past me and there is a fowl smell coming from her behind, i checked and there is no Feces stuck so i am at a loss for what it could be.. maybe a yeast infection?

Might have impacted anal glad. Can have a vet or groomer express it, and if it comes out all brown and thick then that was probably it. If it just happens the once, don't worry about it. If it happens again, then I'd look into a diet change, as it should be emptied naturally every time your cat makes a deposit.

I would have to agree with Ducman69's advice. I'd have the vet check it first to rule out anything dangerous. It does sound like the glands need to be expressed. I've never had it done on a cat but I've had to have it done on one of my dogs.

I don't know what you're feeding your cat but you might take a look at other foods and make some diet adjustments if you can.

This might sound completly ridiculous......

But are you sure she didn't just fart??
Mine used to fart left and right, but it gradually declined when I started feed them more concistantly one type of food, and probiotics. The farts were odd smelling kind of like herbs or something. Not like a poop at all.

Farting is completely natural for plant eaters, but meat eaters should rarely ever fart. If that is the case, it represents a dietary upset, and should be addressed accordingly. Food allergens can cause this, along with softer smellier poo.

And this is all of course based on the assumption you meant FOUL booty smell, and not that your cats butt smells like chicken... Just teasin!

!!!

I am sure your kitty either expressed her anal glands on her own and you are smelling the pungent odor or she has an impacted gland and a vet visit is in order. The glands are at 8:00 and 4:00 on either side of the anus and can get plugged. They should normally be emptied when a cat has a normal bowel movement.

How does someone know if the glands have been emptied or not? My cat has had that smell before also but it seems to go away.

Most commonly the anals are released during a bowel movement. Sometimes, unfortunately the glands are released in other ways and it is a very awful smell. If a cat is frightened and scared suddenly. Also if you are petting your cat right above the tail and they are full, they can spray out a bit. I know, YUK. If the glands are clogged, you will see your cat licking it's rear end a lot and even scoot along the floor. If their stools are normal and formed most of the time, you shouldn't have to worry about it. But it is normal once in awhile to notice that stinky aroma when they walk by. I usually just check and wipe rear ends with baby wipes.
