Cat won't eat new hypo-allergic food? What to do?

My vet changed kitty's food to hypo-allergenic (wet & dry) and she hates them both, and has barely eaten for 5 days! I'm getting worried.

Is there anything that I can add to the food to get her to eat it, without compromising this new diet? Today, I tried adding tuna oil (drained from a can of tuna) and she just licked it off, but left the food.

Can anyone help?

How about trying differant foods - what is your cat allergic to?

If you don't know, you could try a novel protein canned food, such as:

Nature's Variety 95%
-beef
-lamb
-rabbit
-venison

EVO 95%
-salmon & herring
-beef
-duck
-venison

Before Grain 96%
-Salmon
-Beef
-Tuna

*try to keep fish flavors to 1-2 meals a week at most.

Try one of the brands listed above, and just use on flavor, for at least eight weeks. If your cat does fine with that, then you have at least one food that she isn't allergic too. Then try add in another protein, and see how it goes.

We have Pet Valu stores, Petsmart, Walmart. Do you know if I can get them in one of these stores?

We're not sure if she had a food allergy, IBM or bacterial infection. so vet is treating her for both, to see if symptoms subside, before going through costly lab work.

What hypoallergenic food are you giving? I have experience with a few......
The dry my cats like the most: Royal Canin Hypoallergenic HP - they liked it way, way better than hills Z/D as far as taste goes.
Wet: Hills Z/D

Natural Balance Venison and Pea (although not hypoallergenic, but used in allergenic diets because of novel proteins), is a close second.

Rabbit a third

They hated duck, and since my cat is allergic to chicken, one of them had problems.

Pet Valu looks like it has Before Grain and Nature's Variety canned foods. At least they are listed on their site, I have never been to a Pet Valu store, so I don't know if they actually sell them in the store. But, they should be able to order it for you

It also looks like Pet Valu sells Holistic Select probiotic powder. It is a good idea to use probiotics when giving antibiotics, in order to replace the good bacteria that is killed off by them. In the USA, the powder is in the dog food section of the store, but it is for both dogs and cats
I just sprinkle a tiny bit on each meal when the cat is on antibiotics, and for a few weeks after they are done.

Thanks Carolina & Furryfriends50!

Funny you should recommend Natural Balance because she loves the dry,(which has been temporarily stopped), and it's the Royal Canin she doesn't like, but I'll try the NB venison or duck to add to it for flavour.
I'm going to see if I can get Hills wet and see if she'll eat that. Thanks!

Many many thanks also (furry) for taking the time to check the store websites! That was very kind of you!

This morning I got some Natural Balance wet Venison & Pea and kitty loves it! Just gave her a tablespoon so as not to overload her system, but she liked it!
So now at least I know she's getting some moisture. I'll see how it all "comes out"!

Couldn't get Nature's Variety or Natural Balance dry Venison & pea, but will try a larger store!

Many thanks again to you all! Will keep in touch!

Medi-cal offers the Sensitivity VR which has venison. Hill's also has d/d either with duck & potato or venison & potato. I'm not big on the Rx foods, but if it works for your cat, then so be it.
