Should I try this to get him eating wet..?

Monet has decided he doesn't like ANY wet food I give him. I've tried different Wellness (Canned and pouches), I've tried Nutro, Chicken Soup, TotW, Wellness, Science Diet, Natural Balance, Vet's Choice, and more recently Soulistic. I know he's not a fan of Paté.

These foods are barely within my price-range that's healthy. I really can't go anything more than $1.10 a can (even though I tried buying some cans that's like $1.30 and up to see if he likes it).

I do not want to go back to Friskies.. and I know he loved it. I want something with no meat by-products and healthier foods. Friskies is junk food to them IMO.

I am tired of wasting money on food that he refuses to eat, and I want him to eat healthy. I've even put warm water in his wet food to try to make it more appitizing..He'd get excited when I prepare his food, but once I put it down and he takes a sniff, he'd walk away.

He'd eat his dry food (Buffalo Blue's) when he's hungry, so I know he's healthy. His coat is silky and shiny, and he's active/playful as ever. I do not see the need to take him to the vet, especially that he's eating his dry food. He also drinks his water.

I keep his dry food out all day. I am wondering if I should schedule his dry food to certain times of the day to make him "hungrier" for wet food so he'd eat it? Does anyone have any suggestions to get him to eat his wet food?

If your kitty will eat Friskies and that's what you can afford to feed him, by all means feed him that. It's important that he's eating. Oh! Maybe you could try mixing one of the others with the Friskies if you're concerned about quality of the food.

He let us know that the cat IS eating, so Friskies doesn't need to be put back in the picture.

Cats are stubborn. Really, Really, stubborn. You have to teach them that what you put down, is what they are getting to eat, End Of Story.
By trying so many, (and presumably replacing the food with dry as soon as he turns up his nose) you have solidified the fact that your kitty is spoiled and gets whatever he wants.
Instead of trying to explain all the steps you have to take, here is a very informative article that should be a great help to you: http://www.catinfo.org/docs/Tips%20f...%201-14-11.pdf

Good luck!

Edit: Oh, and Yes! You have to stop free-feeding dry if you want them to eat wet.
Also, the steps are closer to the bottom of the article, so if you don't want a long read, you can skip down to the bullet points at the bottom.

*cough*She*cough* lol Thanks for the link! I will read that article now!

Well, normally I don't leave wet food out for more than half an hour (for bacterial reasons..).. took a long shower and came out to find his food dish empty. This is Soulistic. It is promising that he eventually ate his food! I just wish he didn't wait so long to eat it.

Edit: I added some of his dry food to the wet mix. All gone!

About how long is it safe to leave wet food out?

I've said this in the past...
Friskies is all mine will touch too.
A crappy wet food is better than no wet food as long as the dry food is high quality.

If you read the labels, some flavors are actually better than others as ingredients go.

This can be true. I just want to try to avoid Friskies and other crappy wet foods if I can help it. I will revert if all else fails.

Seeing that he DID eventually eat the Soulistic, gives me hope.

I've decided to take away his dry food before bed, that way he has nothing to eat during the night. Wet food in the morning, then I'll put down his dry after he (hopefully) eats it.

You could mix some Friskies into a high quality wet food to see if he will eat it. Then slowly decrease the amount of Friskies till he is eating all high quality food

Lol, oops, sorry. ^^;

I've heard anywhere from a couple hours to 12 hours is fine. I basically leave mine out till it starts to look dry and funny. But my cat usually stops eating it way before then anyways, so I have to chuck it.

This works! I used this method to transition my cats to raw. One day they were turning their noses up at raw completely, so I mixed a bit into Whiskas, and then decreased the Whiskas until I wasn't mixing any in!!

that's good to know! I usually toss it after half an hour, but if I could leave it out longer, that'd be better. I noticed he took his time with the food yesterday. he did eventually eat it
