Last night I came home from a work event around 2am & found my beautiful Tuxedo boy Iggy laying on the floor motionless. I called his name & when he didn't respond I knew he had passed on. When I left at 5:30pm, he was cuddled up warm & snug with the other kitties on the sofa & I pet them all goodbye. Nothing would have indicated that he was ill, or would be found like this when I returned home. He was only 6 years old. We never saw it coming.

Iggy had asthma his entire life, but as long as he got his twice daily puffs, everything was fine. Iggy had puddles of saliva around him & there was some blood in it. His paws looked like the saliva had been all over them. His mouth was open, as were his eyes. It was a great shock to find him like that. Does ANYONE have any ideas about how he could have passed? Does this sound familiar to anyone? If you even have ideas, please let me know.

He was dropped off this morning to be cremated, but we didn't order necropsy & now I kind of regret that.

Iggy came from Ballyporeen, Ireland which is in County Tipperary. He was found by my friend's kids who named him "Jeremy," and when they were told that they couldn't keep him, they put him in their treehouse & fed him scraps from the table. It must have gotten cold, and he crawled up under the hood of the car. He wasn't found until the car had driven 30 miles w/ him under the hood. The pic of him as a baby is when he arrived to my house a little dirty & traumatized, but safe. Their house was surrounded by cow fields, so he probably came from an irish barn cat. I brought him back to Brooklyn w/ me me 2 years ago.

He was a really nice little guy. So sweet. He was the diplomat of the feline world. He headbutted the other kitties everyday, and always put himself at the end of the food line. He tried to make friends with every cat & was always the nicest when a new cat arrived into our fold. He was a catnip addict & loved the garden. He was SO loved & will be missed greatly. Iggy was in love with our other cat Sid & constantly laying on him. All the cats seem fazed & in shock, too. There is a huge hole in my heart & home. We only lost another guy last July.

I am so sorry to read about the loss of Iggy. Sounds like he might have had an asthma attack, or perhaps a heart attack or stroke. I'm so sorry you had to find him and have unanswered questions. He certainly sounds like a lovely cat, and could have been my Felix's twin!

RIP Iggy.

Thank you. I feel the same about what could have caused it. The weird thing to me is the saliva pools, so I want to see if that could ring a bell for someone. I should have definitely done the necropsy. It's better to know so that you can move on & heal.

I am partial to the beauty of Tuxedo cats. Your Felix is handsome.

Today was so tough not having Iggy beg at my side for bits of my breakfast. He LOVED people food. I am so happy for every kiss & cuddle I ever shared with that little guy. We will miss him desperately.

Like you, I found my Farleyv gone. He was also a tuxie. Yes....such a shock.

Iggy had a rough beginning, but you certainly made up for it. You are his hero.

God rest Iggy's precious little soul.

I am so sorry for your loss. There could be a lot of opinions about what happened to him. Like you, I have sometimes wished I had done the necropsy with Max and Speedboat. Because I didn't, it can only be speculation about why they died, same as with Iggy. I hope that in time, your memories will be sweet and bring you much comfort and peace. Iggy, you were a blessed little cat to have someone who loved you so much. Rest in peace.

I do know when my greyhound had a stroke, she drooled a lot. Another thought, he might have had a seizure, which could account for the traces of blood, if he bit his tongue or inside of mouth. That would also cause some pooling of saliva. A necropsy may or may not have helped, especially if it was a seizure or a heart arrhythmia.

Hope you find some peace very soon. Thank you for your comments on my Felix. Yes, Tuxies are very special.

Thank you all for your support. Losing a cat is so much. Last July I lost a kitty & only recently came to terms & rested w/ peace over it. I carried his photo as the screen saver on my phone so I could see him daily, and now just changed it to my handsome Iggy's photo. I try to meditate on how lucky we were to ever have known them at all, but it's tough. You end up feeling so very cheated of a great love that could have extended many years.

I am so sorry for your loss - especially so unexpected. He sounds like a very special kitty and I can see you loved him dearly. He was blessed in that, even if he didn't share enough time with you.
