Do you talk to yourself?

Thread Starter
I've actually caught myself talking to myself more and more recently. I mean like when I'm out in a store.

I work at the front desk of the office so the most of the time the conversations I have are "Hello," "Goodbye," basic chit chat, and answering the phones (which isn't really a conversation). My husband, bless, just isn't much of a talker. So I don't get a lot of convo at home either. And I just don't do much of anything else - it's either work or home.

Another part of my job is IT, which is where I really started talking to myself. Well, it started with talking to computers (not that they talk back but sometimes you have to coax them or threaten them to get them to work). Now it's carrying over.

So do you talk to yourself?

What do you think of someone if you see them talking to themselves?

Yup, but I try to do it quietly.

I don't talk to myself, but I do call myself names such as "you stupid idiot" when I do something stupid.

I do, however, hold "conversations" with my furkids! Geronimo is the most fun to have a conversation with, cuz he'll talk back.

Yep, and I do it in public now I have a baby. I always talk to Zoe about what we're doing, where we're going, the colours and shapes I can see. So when I'm out on my own, I tend to do the same thing for a while before I realise the baby isn't with me...

Sometimes...but I try not to talk out loud to myself in public.

I do. I noticed recently that I've been talking to myself/no one more often, and more often out loud and while I'm out somewhere. I voted Sometimes but I try not to talk in public.... Haha, I try, but these days I'm forgetting to not talk out loud at the store or something. I also talk to myself while riding my bike or in the car or whatever, but at least I'm on my own then.

I didn't vote in the poll, because I talk to myself all the time - just usually not out loud. Gary, on the other hand, does all the time.

The funniest though was when we were on the road. We had cell phones (that work paid for) back in the day when monthly bills were $10,000. (yup). He had problems with the phones heating up, so as soon as there were headsets available he got one. It wasn't bluetooth - but at night you couldn't see the little wire. He was pacing around in front of The New York Palace having a REALLY heated conversation with someone - and they thought he'd gone insane having an argument with... himself.

Sometimes I even argue with myself -

and lose the argument.

Last year, I was under a great deal of stress and I noticed that I started talking out loud to myself a lot. Usually, it was when I was writing code. Fortunately, my fellow cubicle dweller was listening to his IPod and never noticed it.

I figure I should get a Bluetooth earpiece and then everyone would assume I was talking on the phone.

Not typically. Only when very involved in playing my favorite sport I will sometimes.

I do talk to myself. But I try not to answer!!!

And I don't talk to myself at work because I find it annoying when someone near me is constantly chattering: Makes it hard to concentrate. So I try to be mindful of that. Just wish others were equally as mindful!!

But it's more like mumbling

Yes l do, and l answer back as well

I try not to do it in public though, but when l do speak to myself it's because i'm thinking and l multitask at times, especially at the office so it helps

Uh, that would be me. I was in Target one night, looking at tongs. "Do I want these? But will I like these? Should I just walk over to Bed, Bath & Beyond?" There was a guy standing close by and, evidently, he was listening to me. He tapped me on the shoulder and said, "I think you should just buy them!" Oops.

I mutter a lot. I'll be in my office working on a plan review and, if something is missing on the plan, I'll start muttering about engineers. I try to keep it low, but sometimes my co-workers will hear me and they'll give me a rough time.

Yup, I give myself pep-talks when I need to do something but I'm feeling unwell or in a lot of pain, usually just at home, though.

I tend to talk to myself when I am in a bad mood or in a road rage.. well, its yelling at others or objects, but they dont hear, lol.

My co-worker carries conversations with herself. Drives me NUTS to hear her chat by herself all day!

The older I get, the more I talk to myself. I also tend to carry on one-sided conversations with my cats!

That's funny!

I may swear out loud if I mess up something or for example hurt myself by hitting my head into something etc. Weird thing is that I usually use english swear words, probably to sound more polite? "Not in finnish in front of the furkids!" (My sister and I sometimes use english words if we are talking about something we don't want her 7 year old daughter to understand.)

Other than that I don't, unless talking to the kitties counts..

No - I talk to the cats....at least that's my story & I'm sticking to it!

I tend to talk things through out loud. When I proof read things I say it out loud, as then you hear yourself pronouncing it. That's when I started picking up talking to myself, I think.....

AAALLLLLLL the time!! I can't even count the number of times I've caught myself doing that in public; and tried to cover it by singing "do do da doo..." or something along those lines... Does that just make me look crazier? At least Tressa is with me most of the time now; so I just talk to her!!

And when I'm not talking to myself out loud; I'm talking to myself in my head! My husband is also kinda quiet; and well Tressa just isn't good for a conversation yet and then there is Mooch and Noodles! ..so it's me or nothing! I'm home with Tressa alone all day long; so I NEEEED to get it out somehow!

Yeah, I've caught myself on that one.
