Does this Castration look normal to you?

Hi Guys,

I just came back from the vets, I had my cat "Bruce" castrated. He seems fine and doesn't seem to be in any pain but when I went to look at his private bits I can still see 2 testicle hanging down. Now I thought castration/neutering involves removal of the testicles.

Can anyone help explain to me if this is normal or not? as I'm a bit worried. Could it be just swelling? because it clearly looks like testicles.

Defratos, the testes are about the size of a green pea. The scrotum is the fur-covered sack that enclose the testes. Testes removed, scrotum remains. The incision is so small that when my two were neutered (I even got to watch) the vet didn't need to stitch the incision.

As with any wound / incision there may be some swelling and that's possibly what's confusing you.

Some vets leave the sack, some don't, the swelling is normal and it will go down and the sac will shrink up quite a bit over time.

Yes, that's normal. Many vets do neuters that way--they just make a slit in the scrotum and remove the testicles, rather than snipping the whole package away. This is of course more noticable in "well-endowed" full toms than if he had been neutered when he was young. The scrotum will eventually shrink up, but he will probably never look like a cat who was neutered at a young age; I have one who was a full tom when neutered and it is obvious.

As others have said this is normal. I have heard it described as Picking their Pockets. They take the stuff out & leave the skin.

I have one question, what is the blue stuff? I haven't seen that before. We usually get cats back to the shelter with idodine staining, but it's never blue.

Thanks for the feedback guys and gals, really appreciate it you've put my mind at ease.

As for the blue stuff I thought it was some type of iodine or something, but I never asked. I'll see if I can find out.

Thanks once again, he's happily asleep on the bed right now

*bites tongue* So many possible jokes there.

Wesley was done at a young age, but he still has his little poof balls. Those may just be swolen from the surgery and will come down.

IMO, it looks better as they may not jingle anymore when he walks, but at least he looks like a boy and doesn't have a mangina.

Yes, my little boy Jack still has his, so you can see he still looks a boy

Looks normal to me too. There is always some swelling, partly from plucking the hair and partly from the removal if the "man" bits and add to that the winding of the spermatic cord back into the scrotum, and you have what shows in your pics.

Hahaha..

I think I would be mad if when any one of my 3 boys were neutered, if they removed their 'stuff' completely. They are still boys and should be able to have their belongings. The blue stuff is quite confusing to me......

busting a gut. Wondering about the blue as well

I'm sure the blue is just a different kind of surgical disinfectant. I've only seen Betadine used but I'm sure there are other brands. Plus, the OP is in Saudi Arabia, probably they use different stuff over there.

I don't think cats can end up with a "mangina", no matter how the surgery is done, LOL. Even my cousin's kitty, who was fully cryptorchid, so had nothing there to begin with, looks sufficiently "manly" back there.
