I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

Are you talking about wet food or dry food?
As long as dry food is kept in a low humidity environment (like most homes), its not going to go bad even in the open air anytime soon. The palatability may go down though as it becomes stale, like leaving out cheerios and not rolling the bag. I'd just wash the container whenever you cycle through a whole bag since the fat leaves a bit of a residue. The best container though is IMO the original bag, just roll it and seal it.
For wet food, if the seal isn't great, you'll notice it dry out real quick in the fridge is the only real problem. Find a container just slightly bigger than the can, and you never have to wash the container as you can just leave the uneaten part in the can.

I tried the whole 'put a can in a container' thing and I ended up having to clean the container all the time. XD
Oh, and a container doesn't keep them as fresh as lids.

Even better than this are lids that are made specifically to fit on pet food cans. You just snap 'em on and throw in the fridge.

The kibble I store in the original bags and put the bags in the pantry. I have 2 small, airtight containers that I transfer kibble from the bags to and keep them in the kitchen cabinets so they are handy. I have about a weeks worth of cat and dog kibble in each container. I clean them every time they are empty with soap and scorching hot water. I'd run them through the dishwasher but I'm afraid the constant heat will degrade the containers and allow more air into them.

I've never thought about that the food would get stale. I usually just leave the bag open in the pantry. I'm going to have to start sealing the bag now. I don't want my guys to eat stale food, poor things.
