kittens not interested in solid food?

Squeaky's kittens turned 4 weeks old yesterday. They are playful and vocal, all over 1 pound (they outgrew the Weight Watchers food scale at just under 3 weeks!) and have figured out how to climb out of their little nest and walk around.

I tried putting out some canned kitten food (Royal Canin Babycat, same food I fed my other kittens when they were tiny) and they aren't really interested at all. One of them licked a little bit off my finger, but Mom ate most of it herself! Also tried mushy dry kitten chow and they weren't too interested in that either. I know they are still nursing off mom.

Am I doing something wrong? Will they eventually start eating it? I am a nervous grandma, haha, just want to make sure I am doing right by them

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Four weeks is a little young. If they're not eating solid food by six weeks, you might have some reason for concern.

Oh, good....I had a feeling I was just being overly worried. I spent some time looking around online and found some sites that said to start at 3 weeks, which seemed REALLY young. I'm glad we have some time....and now I have a supply of food for when they are ready!

Thanks!

Our kittens usually show interest in food at 4 weeks. We do start them off with wetfood and put a little in their mouths to entice them. Sometimes we mix chicken babyfood in. We also put out babycat kibble and they take to it very well.

I've only had one litter of kittens, from a stray I adopted. They all started eating solid food at about 5 weeks, just a few nibbles. I think they were close to 8 weeks before mom weaned them and they were completely on solid food.

Yes, most of the foster kittens I have had haven't shown any interest in solid food until 5-6 weeks old age. The last litter I had though were super kittens who started inhaling food on their own at 3 and a half weeks! Sometimes I'll help the matter along, rub a little on their paws or along their mouth so they'll get a taste, but they usually figure it out on their own.
