My e-mail provider is VERY good at filtering out spam, etc. I haven't seen one of the Nigerian scams get through in years.

Suddenly, five of them have gotten through in the last week or so. So, here's my warning: Be very careful about opening e-mails from someone you don't know.

In my case, if I'm suspicious about an e-mail, I can put it in my spam box and open it there. That box will not open any attachments or embedded illlustrations, not even the 1x1 pixel kind that can be used for implanting viruses, trojans, and other malware.

Thanks for the warning. I am always very leery about clicking on links and such, but reminders never hurt.

Those Nigerian scams aren't limited to email these days.

A girl at work told me that her son had advertised on Kiji or however you spell it, to sell some hubcaps. He was contacted by someone. The short of it is that it was a scam involving money orders. The person was going to have someone send him a money order. He was to cash it and get another money order minus the amount for the hubcaps plus some other amount, and send the new money order together with the hubcaps.

The scam is that the money order they send is a fake. They get you to try and cash it at the bank. If it works, you send them money and you keep some yourself. If it doesn't work, you get arrested for fraud, which is a felony.
