Hi all,

I am reading a lot of threads with preference to patÃ[emoji]169[/emoji] wet food.

why is this?

I am going on the hunt this weekend for a new brand cat food. Monet decided he doesn't like Science Diet culinary creations anymore. -.-

I think it is the cats preferance, not the humans

The Culinary Creations wet food...is that not pate then? Below is a list of non-pate foods:

-Innova Flex
-Nature's Variety Homestyle
-Weruva
-SOME Merrick flavors (some are pate and some are chunks, check labels or experiment)
-Wellness POUCHES
-Blue Buffalo healthy Gourmet
-By Nature Goldleaf selects
-Soulistic (Petco "brand" which is I think actually made for them by Weruva)

That's what I thought, cat's preference. I know Monet hated Friskies PatÃ[emoji]169[/emoji], lol.

Culinary Creations is cubed chunks.

thanks for the list
I will look into them, compare ingredients and prices

With my cats, shredded or chunk style food means they'll just lick off the liquid.
With the pate, I just mush it all together, no gravy licking allowed.

I have two cats who will not eat pate, and two who will eat any style.

My kitties prefer to slurp their food, not bite it and chew it!
Therefore, they get pate. I tried chunks once. Just had to mush them up with the spoon. It took me longer to mush it than it took my cat to slurp it up.

Chunks in gravy they just lick the gravy out... not exactly nutritious. Pate they nom down the whole thing in no time.

Kittah lurvs da loaf.

And btw, I believe all cats suffer from flavor burnout on wet food, and are much more excited by flavor that changes every once in a while. We switch flavors every meal, prolly overkill, but they seem to enjoy it.

It's really a question of what a particular cat likes. Jamie won't eat pate unless I mix some dry food in with it. Then again, he's so picky that he'll only eat food that comes in a small (3 or 4 oz.) can, and even refilling a small can from a large one doesn't fool him.

Cats seem to like different textures as well as different flavors. Pate' is the solid loaf type of cat food vs the flaked, chunked in gravy etc. All 4 of mine like all of the textures but the flaked makes on of them throw up so I never buy flaked. The chunks in gravy are fine for my cats but I've heard that some cats will just suck down the gravy and leave the actual food, Bad kitty

i've noticed Monet would lick up the gravy over eating the food lately. I've been changing flavors often, but guess he has decided he had enough!

Today, hunting. lol. I know he LOVES Friskies, but I really do not want to go back to that brand. It's like junk food in the human world.

For cats who lick the gravy of chunky style foods I recommend feeding pate with enough water added to make it gravy. Then the cat can have a whole dish of just gravy, and be getting what s/he needs.

PS try warm water, to make it eve more appealing

My vet said to stay away from the stuff in gravy, I *think* (it has been several years now, so I'm going on iffy memory) because of the chemicals needed to keep all the different components suspended/integrated.

One of mine really likes to lick rather than chew, so I add a bit of hot water to her pate.

That is interesting about the flavor burnout. Mine are on Hills I/D because one has had diarrhea and now just has soft stool. The vet wanted both cats to be on it so they would not fight over two kinds of food.

Anyway, they do not love it as much as they did. They do loke the dry still however.

Can't wait to get to normal food with different flavors hwoever.

It's the cat's preference. Mine are partial to chunks in gravy but do like the Natural Choice pate'. The large cans of Nutro Natural Choice and the large cans of Nutro Max are pate'. The small cans of each are chunks in gravy. One of my cats will lick the gravy off of the meat and not eat the chunks. So, no gravy food for her

My cats all love pate type wet food. Pipsqueak won't eat the shredded or chunky types. He only slurps out the gravy and that's it, leaves the rest. Presley does the same thing. So pate it is. They LOVE to take big bites out of the loafs

Mine eat both. They dont like pate two days in a row though. They vastly prefer the chunks in gravy and actually eat the chunks. They eat that better than the pate, but I prefer the pate as I feel that it is better nutrition than all that gravy. I thought I read somewhere that the gravy adds alot of carbs which can make cats fat, plus it isn't good for diabetic cats because of that.

I have one cat that will actually take a big chunk of the pate and sneak over to a corner and eat it in "secret". Then she'll sneak back to her bowl and grab another bit and do the same thing. I guess she thinks she's "hunting" the pate'
