Help with dingleberries

Eww!!! My cat has some awful issues with poop.

I am trying to get him to lose weight, which is part of his problem. When one of my other cats was still on kitten food he would sneak it and he gained weight. Now I have them on a Wellness diet so hopefully he will drop a couple pounds.

In the meantime, when he goes to the bathroom, some of it stays on his butt. He'll either scoot his butt across the floor to wipe it off or he'll do nothing. I got some frangrance/dye free baby wipes hoping that would help, but he runs and hisses at me when I get one out.

Today I managed to use treats to bribe him into letting me wipe his bottom a little with a wet washcloth. I was gentle, and talked to him soothingly and let him have a treat after he let me do it a little. He won't let me see it though so I have no idea how I did.

Amadeus, who is playing on the rainbow bridge now, used to LOVE it when I took a washcloth to his butt! He would purr and lick his paw and be so happy about it. But Sebastian get so mad at me! He smacked me today! I tried not to get mad but I lost my temper (don't worry, I didn't smack him back, just yelled at him lol).

His butt stinks! It's not that bad, there's just a little poop dried in his fur right by his tail. He won't let me get it. Should I just let him try to clean it himself??

If he is longhaired, or even if not, you could try a saniitary shave and keep that up until he loses weight.

I wonder how many people here know that dingleberries is the correct term for poop encrusted animal hair? Old term, very old but descroptive.

Yes, I have always used that term! My fiance hates it LOL.

Sebastian is a tuxedo kitty. He doesn't seem like he's uncomfortable and from what I could tell his booty hole isn't red or irritated looking, which is good. It's just a little smeary on the fur and so kinda smelly. Plus I don't want him rubbing his butt all over my apartment. I don't know how I could convince him to let me shave him, he won't even let me gently wipe him with a baby wipe or wash cloth!

Thanks for the input. I'm just gonna keep trying with the weight loss. He's on Wellness grain free wet/dry which I had luck with another kitty in the past with that.
