Tonight I went to one of the cheap movie theaters. With our $2.25 off coupon, the admission was $2.00! Can't beat that!
The movie was "Battle: Los Angeles" which came out in March and had mixed reviews.
It wasn't bad. Typical war movie only instead of human vs. human, it was human vs. alien.
Lots of death and destruction, but no real blood and guts gore other than for one scene involving an alien. Yes, people did die, but you didn't see blown up body parts, and blood and guts spraying around.
The acting was so-so for the most part. There were some touching scenes, mostly some of the dialogue between the Marines that caused me to tear up.
The cinematography left a great deal to be desired IMHO. As people were running and diving and shooting, the camera was jerky and erratic making me feel dizzy and nauseated at times.
And man, was it ever loud! Because of the guns blazing, bombs exploding etc, it was hard to hear what was being said at times. Well, quite often really. And the volume in the theater was too loud for all of the action going on in the film. The seat felt like it was vibrating at times. I felt like sticking my fingers into my ears to try and block out some of the noise. IMHO they could have turned the volume down just a touch.
I'd give it 2 1/2 stars. I think to give it any higher of a star rating, you would have to be a die hard action junkie. I can say, that unlike some action movies involving mass killings IE: Die Hard, at least this movie had a reason for it.
