Hello!
First off let me thank you ALL for contributing to such a wonderful site! I have literally spent the last 5 weeks studying everything here to help with my pregnant cat.
Around the last weekend in March, a very beautiful calico Siberian began wondering around our street. Due to her beautiful coat and overall happy demeanor, I assumed she was simply a neighbours new cat. Over a week went by and Kitty appeared to be getting into a lot of trouble with other local mogs and I grew a little concerned that she never appeared to "go home" at night. On closer inspection I found she had a collar and magnetic cat door bell. I took her in and went to great efforts to find her owners, unfortunately to no avail. On her first visit to the vet to be checked over and checked for a microchip the vet commented that she was very constipated and that she couldn't tell if she was pregnant or not.
I didn't think much more of it until a week later I noticed her nipples were pinking up and she turned from a very lovable girl to a right miserable moggie! I left it until the 30th April before I took her back to the vets to have her pregnancy confirmed. The vet had a good poke around and declared that yes, moggie is pregnant but only 4-5 weeks and with one kitten. I was a little surprised as she looked biiiiiig but hey, I'm no vet!
So, the last 3 weeks I've been preparing everything for the arrival of Kitten(s), assuming I have another week or so to go. Then last night moggies behaviour changed from moody to her original loving self, to the point where I have been able to get a good look and feel of her belly and er, stick a thermometer up her bottom. I can defintately feel one kitten squiriming around quite far back, towards her bottom but where her big pregnant mass is I can't make anything out. Her nipples have also become bigger and the hair receeded but as yet, no milk. Last night my boyfriend noticed that her vulva looked a little larger than normal and there was a VERY small amount of brown mucus.
She had started what I guess is nesting at the start of the week - at one point I found her in an empty suitcase! - and I was awoken at 4am by her scratching around once again, also straining in her litter box but not pooing. At about 8am she finally did a very runny poo. Then everything stopped.
She has spent most of the day sleeping on our bed, which she never does and apart from eating a very small amount she hasn't done anything else. I noticed that her back legs are quivering a little when she lies down But she doesn't appear to be contracting and is very chilled out.
I have taken her temp twice in 3 hours and it has been 37.8
Was the vet wrong? Is she later than 54 days and is she about to give birth or is this quite normal in late pregnancy? Help!
ps.She will be getting spayed asap after the birth. I have the time, energy and love to look after this mog and her kittens which is why I opted to continue with pregnancy.
