...into the carrier today. She has an appt. to see the vet tonight at 5pm. Autumn, as you know is one cat you can't do much too. I can't comb or brush her, apply flea meds to her or get her into the carrier. I have had to cancel at least 4 appointments for the vet last year cuz I just couldn't get her into the carrier. I was told to scruff her so that is how I got her in last year.

The only thing is, I have one chance to scruff her. If she gets away from me, I'm done. She will run away and hide and not get near me again. She is due for a rabies shot and her claws are quite long so need to be clipped. Please send some vibes that I will get her to the vet tonight, I need all the help I can get. Thanks guys.

Update: I got Autumn in the carrier, it wasn't easy but she is in there now and crying of course. Unfortunately I had to put her in there early when I had the chance. Her appt. isn't until 5pm but I will leave here about 4:15 and hopefully the vet will take her in early. I just could not wait till the last minute, at least I know she is in there and I got dressed so am ready to go in about 20 minutes. Hearing her cry is killing me tho.

Thanks for the vibes, they helped.

Aw, I think I remember your posting about this previously. I had a cat once that was very sweet and gentle, but he would fight like h--l to avoid going into the carrier. I know how stressful it can be!

Come on, Autumn! Get in there!

Thanks so much. I have to wait till much later to even get dressed cuz Autumn is just way to smart, if she sees me dressed she will know I'm going out and just by feeling my tension, she will know I am wanting to take her with me :-)))

Aww, poor scared Autumn!! I, too, rememeber your call for vibes last year to get her into the carrier. So, I am sending some more calming vibes for both of you. Any way you can get her in the bathroom and shut the door, so if you do lose her on that first scruff attempt, she can't go anywhere? Best of luck, and I hope she has a good appointment!!!

I am so lucky with mine- Genever just kind of takes it, doesn't fight much. Dorothy fights, she has strong legs going every which way to stay out of the carrier, but at least she doesn't run away and hide. The last time 2 weeks ago, though, she fell for the old throw the favorite toy into the carrier trick. I can't believe she actually ran in after it! Too easy!

Oh goodness, poor Autumn, and poor you, too!
It's always so hard when you have to force them to do something that terrifies them for their own good. My Saskia is the same way. She is the sweetest, most gentle cat until you try to get her into the carrier and then she fights so hard it's as if she's fighting for her life - always breaks my heart
even though I know I'm doing it for her health.

Lots and lots of vibes that you're able to get her into the carrier as easily as possible.
I'll be thinking about you guys!

She gets way too scared if I close a door on her, last time I tried closing all the doors in the hallway and she hid under the kitchen table shaking terribly. She was actually gasping and I don't want to do that to her again. I will just have to be quick scruffing her and hope I get her on the first and only try. My only problem Autumn may have is her weight gain.

I'm only here occasionally so unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with Autumn. But I was wondering what would happen if you asked the vet to make a house call?????

Good luck - mine are going in for rabies shots and semi-annual senior panels Memorial day weekend (that Friday) - I've already got the sherpa bags out so they get used to them.

But, you're right - they're all too smart. My two are sleeping in the darn bags now...but wait til it's time to go! My Dharma knows all the good places to hide - and finds new ones every time!

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
SO glad you got her in the carrier!

We have to leave the carrier out two days in advance and NOT MENTION THE WORD VET or talk about it at all. Since Gary has so many doctors appointments these days, the day of, I just say, "Gary's it's time to get ready to head to the doctor." There are just too many places they can get to that we can't.

Well I was right about Autumn's weight, she gained a whole lb. since last year. I have to cut back on her dry food since I leave it out all day and she eats it anytime she wants.

Her eyes are still tearing but Autumn won't let me give her any type of meds to clear this up. The vet gave me capsules filled with Lysine to add to her food last year, she wouldn't eat the food. Yesterday she gave me a tube of Lysine and tried giving a dab to Autumn, she wouldn't take it. I now have the tube that the vet gave me at no cost since it has been used. I will try to give it to Autumn by applying some to her paw and hopefully she will lick it off, don't know if that will work or not. If she doesn't take this med, Autumn will have this problem for the rest of her life unfortunately. I feel so bad for her when I see her eyes filling with liquid but she won't let me help her.
