I have been very ill and in the hospital 3 times in less than 2 weeks. I have liver disease, and apparently it is not functioning as well as it had. The pain meds I have been taking did not filter properly. What I had was ammonia poisoning. The ammonia produced in my body made me unable to speak a whole sentence, and my memory is nearly gone. DH came home from work and found me on the couch, unresponsive, not knowing who he was, so he grabbed me up and went to the ER for the 3rd time in a week. By the time we got there, I was having seizures.They had given me improper dosage of the meds I need to keep my ammonia levels. I have an appointment at Chapel Hill next week to see if I qualify for a clinical trial. It is headed by one of the best liver specialists in the country. I am diabetic, and a whole laundry list of other stuff, so it may keep me from qualifying. I would appreciate some TCS magic.
If anyone takes a lot of OTC pain releivers, it can turn your liver into Swiss cheese. PLEASE let your doctor know and have him do a liver panel.

Oh no, I'm so sorry. How awful. Lots of vibes headed your way, both that you feel better soon and that you qualify for the study! You'll be in my thoughts!

And SO true about OTC painkillers and the liver. I accidentally over-dosed on aceteminophen last year (100%, completelyaccidentally, I wasn't trying to harm myself at all, I'd just had a brutal migraine non-stop for 3+ days and was completely out of it and lost track of how much I'd taken until my partner at the time realised I'd really over done it, thankfully) and if I hadn't gone to the hospital when I did, I'd have lost my liver. Definitely something to be very careful about!

Oh how scary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We knew about the danger of OTC pain killers because Gary needed to move to narcotics, and the pain mangement doctor told us that it's the tylenol in combination in many narcotics that destroys the liver, not the narcotics.

Oh I hope the damage is reversible, and you qualify for the trial!!!

Of course you have vibes and good wishes. What a scary thing to have happen. I hope you find something to help you very soon. Keep a phone nearby you, too, and use it to call for help if you start feeling unwell again!
