Cat hides and his butt breaks out in rash

My cat hides around strangers and will not come out. A day later after they leave he will come out but he has lost hair on his butt and it is like a rash. A couple of days later it heals and he is fine until the next visitor comes. He is a big fat cat and he cannot reach his own butt to pull the hair out so I'm sure its his nerves. HELP!!! Has anyone ever heard of this????

Being overweight in cats can severely shorten their life and cause other general health issues, some of which can manifest themselves as personality disorders. So first order of business would be to graaaadually get kitty back to a healthy body condition. If you're free feeding dry, which is usually the cause of obesity, that would be an easy fix. If you can, invest in a Petmate autofeeder (the 10lb one on Amazon.com works well) and it can disperse measured amounts to control calories, and mix in some wet food which is low cal and filling.

That in itself my resolve the other issue with no other action taken, and if its not enough, you can try a feliway diffuser to help calm the kitty and greet visitors outside and give them a couple of kitties favorite treats and when they come in they can drop one for him, so that way they will be seen as walking food bags.
