What's a good cat laxative for shedding season?

As much as I brush one of my cats, he still gets furballs this time of year. I hate how sugary most laxatives are and I can't imagine it being very good for them. Does anyone know of either a low sugar laxative, or an alternative laxative that can be used?

I know for my ferrets I use petroleum jelly and flavor t with ferretone... Not sure if something like that can be done successfully for cats though....

Actually, I prefer petroleum jelly based products over mineral oil because its NOT a strong laxative.

The first step IMO is to minimize shedding and ingestion. Keeping the home at a relatively constant temperature and humidity, feeding a quality food with sufficient fat, ensuring good hydration, and brushing with a furminator once a week are a step in the right direction.

Then if that isn't enough, then you can give Hartz Hairball Remedy Plus when you notice symptoms. It tastes great w/ malt flavor, and the plus is for the salmon and sunflower oil and vitamin E/B1 added.

My vet prescribed Laxatone for Lucas and it has worked pretty good. He actually liks the flavor so much that he thinks is a treat. It smells like pancakes syrup.

I have given my cats Vaseline once a week about 1/2 tsp. Plus furminating once or twice a week during shedding.
