Getting vet care for semi-feral cat

My semi-feral cat is in need of shots and being microchipped and I'd like to get him examined too is possible. The problem is that he is so afraid of humans that you can't touch him and although he has never shown any aggression that I've seen I think he may if he feels scared enough.
How do other people with semi-feral cats get them their shots and other vet care they need? I talked to a local vaccination clinic about anesthetizing him but they would not do it as it would be irresponsible to do something so drastic for just a few shots. I'm not sure how else to do it though. Any suggestions?

You can call around to different vets and ask them who handles feral cats. Some do and some do not.
Vets that do see feral cats already have a protocol of how they handle them and know the general temperament of a feral kitty.

You can also go to petfinder.org and put in your zip code to get a list of rescue groups in your area and contact them (usually via email) and ask them if they can recommend a good vet who sees feral cats. (since many rescue groups already deal with feral cats).

Good luck with your kitty.

I agree with Pami; any clinic that does low-cost spade/neutering, and/or who participates in a TNR program, knows how to handle semi/feral cats. Call around. You could also check with your local SPCA to see who their vet is; that vet probably sees lots of different temperments in cats.
And it's just not semi/feral cats who go psycho at a vets office; a colleague of mine has had a male cat since it was a kitten, and the cat must first be anesthetized for the vet to handle him (after muzzling him of course).
