High calcium

Hello, anyone have a cat with high calcium. I have a 16 year old girl. The vet says it could be a number of things but they can't say without expensive tests they don't recommend.

Wondering if anyone has experience/recommendations for cats with high calcium???

Also food, my cat was on renal lp for kidney health but her numbers are normal again and vet recommends high protein food. I feel like when i switched to high protein food last year was when my cat's kidney number suddenly went up. What's the verdict: high protein or not???

My Jordan had high blood calcium about 4 years ago now. He had some problems with consitpation so he was put on lactulose daily. About a month after starting the medication his blood calcium spiked. The vets insisted it was intestinal lymphoma, but I did not have the money to have the exploritory surgery. So I started him on Pred with the idea that if he had lymphoma I would do my best to keep him comfortable. Well after a year on Pred his blood calcium was still just over normal. I decided to try to take him off the lactulose. Sure enough about a month after I stoped the lactulose his blood calcium dropped. The vets will not admit it was the lactulose, but I know it was. I always tell people this story just in case thier cat is on lactulose. If not, I'm afraid the things that cause high blood calcium are generally expensive to diagnose.

Now when his blood calcium was high the vet actually did a food trial of kidney food. Somewhere in some of the research he had read that kidney food was benifical to cats with hypercalcimia. Now this was 4 years ago so there is no way for me to say what current research says.

As far as CRF, if the cats kidney values are being controlled by the kidney diet, I would not switch to high protine unless my vet had a good reason to make the switch. I would probably want a 2nd opinon too, as traditional knwoledge is that cats with kidney disfunction need to be on a low protine, low phosphate and low sodium diet.

My cats blood test were always normal and she was on a special cat food for crystals in urine for years and then the new vet recommended high protein food. I switched to high protein and the next blood test showed high kidney results. So i felt like it was the food. Then she was put on the Renal LP for a year and now i'm told to go back to high protein because her blood test for kidney is good. Still high calcium. Not sure what it could be but my cat is thriving otherwise for 16 years old.

I got Royal Canin Indoor Mature 27 because it mentioned it was good for older teeth and one of my girl's teeth is slightly inflamed looking in back (vet said she's old so leave it). Hope this is a good choice of food for a 16 year old cat.
