turns out there is a reason why...

I call Holland my Chunky Monkey.

She had her check-up on Saturday, and I was really curious to get her weighed. She was always underweight, then we discovered her teeth troubles, and the last time I had her weighed was last February (2010), about 3 weeks after her dental, she was at 6 1/2 pounds, and the vet wanted to see her gain another pound. When I adopted her, the vet said she probably wouldn't ever get to more than 8 pounds.

So I was guessing she would weigh in at 7, 7 1/2 pounds on Saturday. We put her on the scale... NINE POUNDS!!!! She's a chunk!
She still scored a 5 on the body condition scale, but her new vet doesn't want to see her gain any more weight. That was NEVER something I expected to hear about my petite little girl...

What do you think: chunky monkey or just right?:

Both the vet and the vet tech commented on how beautiful she is
and the vet said her coat is just gorgeous, so soft and shiny. So I guess that's the one thing my camera DOES capture well, her pretty fur.

She's gorgous! Just perfect to my eyes.

Those little, round, black, DSH females are especially special, in my opinion.

I think Holland is just right. We have a kitty who I call Chubby-Butt (Bitty is his real name) and he tips the scales at 18 pounds!!!
He's big all over though.

She looks kinda like Gumby (black cat/gold eyes).....but she also has a bit of belly on skinny legs/body. Gumby got to be quite pudgy but we did trim down a tiny bit so she's like Holland, on the high end of OK weight wise.

Thanks everyone! I think she's just right too.
I'm not worried about her weight, as the vet says she's healthy and that I am doing a great job!
I just about fell over when the tech told me how much she weighs though...

I couldn't agree more! Of course, I am a bit biased...

Gumby does look very leggy in her pictures. Other than the long legs, I always think she and Holland look a lot alike too.

I love Holland's coat and eyes! Gorgeous kitty.
The thing about cats and excess weight is keeping them trim helps them live longer and healthier (less chance for diabetes and other health stuff).

Holland is so beautiful and sleek.
I agree with your vet, that she is healthy where she is, but don't let her gain any more. I have one like that too, my Jennie. Jennie's ideal weight would be 9 pounds, but she is happier at 10. She's not obese, and so I have stopped trying to fight it, as long as she doesn't get any fatter.

That's exactly what I was thinking! (I've always had a thing for black babies.)

She's a gorgeous little girl and I think it was great that she was able to put on some weight. You're a good mom for finding her tooth problems.

Holland is just gorgeous! We have to watch Hannah's weight as she is a petite kitty. She has weighed as much as 9lbs, but is much better looking and more active at about 7-8 lbs, which is where her weight hovers now.

Holland looks just like HollyHeart.

She's got a bit of a "pudge" around her middle. I tell her it's just "spay sway" not fat

And I think Holly's around 9lbs too. We put the cats on the Wii to get their weight

I never thought of that!! Do you hold them and get on yourself and subtract your weight? I would love a way to take her weight at home, but I don't have a baby scale and I'm not sure how accurate a people scale would be...
