Help settle a family debate?

Since you guys don't know me at all, I figure you're perfect for getting an unbiased opinion. So, the debate: two people in my family think the people below only have a vague resemblance that's not very noticeable, and two others think they look VERY much alike. I won't tell you which side I'm on to keep it totally unbiased. Oh, and we all agree that the pictures are good representations of what both people look like normally and neither is one of those pictures you get sometimes that for some reason doesn't really look the person (I'm not the only one that happens to, am I? ). So, what do you think?

Yes, the noses and chins are very similar.
I feel that the definitely look alike.
A big resemblance for sure!
Not really, no. I mean, they kinda look alike but I could come up with several of my own relatives and friends who kinda look like both pictures too.
I actually thought the facial structure looked quite different. The older photo has a more pointed nose, and the younger person has a different chin.

There's a resemblance - but the fact that they are side on, one of them isn't particularly clear, and the hair is kind of pulled back the same may have something to do with that.

Nope, no resemblance. The top woman has a rounded chin, the bottom woman has a pointed chin. The top woman has a rounded ear, the bottom woman has a slight point to her ear. The top woman has a very low brow, the eye brow is practically sitting on the nose, the bottom woman's brow is high and arched.

The noses are similar but lots of people have prominent noses.

I think they look very much alike!

They're both lovely, and I think they look very much alike.

I also think they look very much alike! Mind you not as much as twins like some other members are describing it. But I would say possibly relatives for sure

My thoughts exactly. The bottom picture is not as side on as the top one, plus she is smiling.

A better gauge of resemblance would come from a front on picture of both people.

My first thought is that they're probably related, but other than that, the only similar feature (to me, anyway) is the nose.
They kinda look alike.
They might kind of favor each other, but it's really impossible to tell from just those two photos. Could go either way, I'd need more photos.
I think they look very much alike, except that the woman in the upper photo appears to have been somewhat older when the shot was taken than the one in the lower photo is. They're both very pretty!

(On the other hand, I've noticed that people in old photos often look much older than they were... something about the nature of photography then, maybe.)
Yes, they do look alike. The nose and eyes. and of course the hair.
Some what the nose and eyes/ But the chins are very different.

Well, eight people say yes, two say no, three say kind of/a bit, and three say probably not but they can't really tell, so it's still all over the place! Very controversial issue, evidently. Thanks guys!

There's a great deal of resemblance! In fact, to my eye, any differences could be totally attributable to the slightly different angle of the photos -- in the lower photo the camera looks upward, rather than straight on -- and a small disparity in age. Both of those factors could cause the first photo to exhibit a somewhat pointier nose or chin, but the basic bone structure looks very similar otherwise. Lovely ladies.

I think there is a definite resemblance

Is the debate settled?
What this shows is the amazing variety of points of view. I see absolutely no resemblance to each other in those photos at all. I am usually very quick to notice details such as likenesses and similarities, and am good at those "pete and repete" children's puzzles and it astounds me that people say they do see any resemblance.

I'm starting to think it will forever remain a matter of disagreement! As you can see in this thread, there's just no consensus.

FTR, that's my maternal grandmother in the top picture, and me in the lower one. The four parties in the perpetual debate are 1) my mum, who thinks I look exactly like her, 2) me, and I think I look quite a lot like her, though with some minor differences, 3) my maternal aunt, who thinks we have a vague resemblance, and 4) my maternal grandmother herself, who sees absolutely no similarity - otto, she'd love your reply.

My grandmother's 27.9 in her photo, and I'm 26.6 in mine, so just over a year younger, but I tend to look a year or two younger than I am, usually. Unfortunately this is the only picture I have of my grandmother after the age of seven but before her mid-forties; I wish I did have one that faced forward for comparison - now that would be an interesting addition to the debate!

Sometimes personalities are part of it. People who know you both and see similarities in personality or character will see physical resemblances too, especially if you have similar facial expressions.
Don't see a resemblance. Hard to tell from just a side-shot, but nose bridge is quite a bit different.
Whatever. You're both beautiful!

I think they look similar and are related.
I don't see a resemblance except that both photo's are a profile.

Yeah, I think that's absolutely part of it. We have VERY similar personalities (unfortunately for me ), and apparently very similar speech patterns. We also apparently both do this same weird lip pursing thing when concentrating, or really fascinated by something, or annoyed and a lot of my other facial expressions are apparently like hers. I say "apparently" a gazillion times there - need a thesaurus! - because of course that's all lost on me besides the similar personalities, but those may be the things my mum and aunt are seeing and "reading" as similar appearances when pure appearance is actually a minor factor.

Also, we have the same colouring, very pale with dark blond hair (everyone else in the family - and on my father's side, too - has olive skin and dark hair; I'm the product of some seriously recessive genes, apparently), but my grandmother's photo is black and white and my hair is wet from swimming in mine, so darker than normal, and so that's kind of lost in the pictures as well.
So it's quite possible that having the same colouring - especially because we're the only two in the family with it, so it's notable - might also be throwing them.
