Finland has just won the World Championship of ice hockey! Result was 6-1!
It's 0.30am here (Monday just begun) and everyone has gone mad! The cars keep honking and people outside are singing and celebrating.
I don't usually watch hockey (usually Finnish people loooove hockey), but this was a special occasion because we were playing against Sweden, and those are always the "no matter who wins as long as Sweden loses" things, we love them. And this happened to be a bit bigger match, it was going to be either gold or silver. Many of my friends told me earlier that they had taken Monday off of work just in case we win...

I lol'd when someone linked me a Swedish newspaper's website and their headline was just a huge Finnish swear word (perkele).

Very exciting for you. I remember when the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup last year. It was a BIG BIG Deal

Congrats! Big hockey fan myself and hoping the Saint John Sea Dogs can win tonight and bring home the Presidents Cup! They're QMJHL.

I have a friend from Finland and while he was here, that is what I heard a lot about and this morning, I saw that on his facebook status!

Way to go Suomi!

BTW - have you heard of Signmark?

Thanks everyone! In case someone here knows something about hockey I'll add a link here to a goal which one of our players made against Russia on Thursday, apparently it was somehow very cool (I wouldn't know..) and it was hyped so much all over the world that I'm sure it made the team very confident and helped them win: put the volume down, commentator goes crazy.. *eta* That player (Granlund) is going to play NHL Minnesota if I understood correctly.

Oh my, what excitement in the announcer's voice!!! Couldn't understand a word of it, but you could tell he was blown away. I couldn't see the goal, it happenned so fast on the video. Again, I love hockey and that is pretty cool your team has won

Yay! Good for you - it's such a wonderful feeling when your country wins something like this
I can definitely imagine and understand the celebrations!
Last year, when Czech Republic won, there was a great big party in the middle of Praha

I somehow missed this thread earlier, but Congrats!

I clicked on the link because I wanted to see the goal, but I got this:

They had the video with english announcer too, but I couldn't find it. The goal also has it's own facebook fan group, it has over 200 000 fans.
