Grass

Is it ok to take my 8 week old kitten outside & let him eat the grass? I heard its good for them. Buying the grass in a pet store is so expensive.

I don't think it's necessary, i think grass eating is still pretty debated on both the need or the reasons behind it.

I know i to have tried the 'in house' types over the years with the housecats with little success, my barn cats (3yrs& 10wks) i have yet to even witness chewing on grass.

You could probably do a search on the forum here as i know it has come up before so you can read others experiences, Personally for my cats i have decided it's not needed.

Cats don't need to eat grass. Some like to, and there is some debate a to whether it serves any purpose.

In my experience, taking cats outside for supervised periods to enjoy the outdoors only encouraged them to forever try to sneak out, and possibly be lost. So, I stopped doing that with all my cats over the last 30 years. None of mine try to get out.

Grass could have some good effects on a cat, but it isn't necessary. I would be careful about taking a young kitten like yours outside for grass, because there could be all sorts of bugs and parasites in the grass...and that could cause problems for your kitten if he eats them
If you would like him to safely eat grass, try waiting until he is a little older and plant your own grass in a pot (it is less expensive than pet-store grass).
Have fun with your kitten!! They grow up very quickly

I too have thought about buying "cat grass" for my young cat. I agree that it does seem very expensive. I drive my cat each day to a large wood for a walk and i have never seen him show any interest in eating it (he enjoys a good chew on a twig while up a tree!).
If you are interested in harness training your cat, please feel free to send me a PM. At eight weeks, he is a little young - has he had all his vaccinations yet? I started walking my kitten at around four months.

I've heard it's good for their tummies, and whenever I take my cat for a walk, he always eats some.

my kitty, Lola, loves her grass and goes on to the balcony to snack on it every morning. you can get seeds in the pet store and plant the grass yourself. I have a pot, which is good for about 2-3 months. Cheaper than the supermarket grass.

I give mine the petgrass you can buy at the pet superstores. I've researched it and post results here before but from what I've found there is no nutritional value to the grass. I don't know why mine even like it but they do. I can't find any health benefits to it one way or the other. I would never let my cats eat grass outdoors unless it's in my own yard because all of my neighbors use chemicals on their lawns. Not saying you should not do it but just giving you what goes on here at my place
