Do you like old beautiful cars?

Here's a video of this year's Goodguys Del Mar Nationals. I'm a member of this club. In fact, I posted pictures of the local Spring event, where I had my car and qualified as a finalist (1 of 19) for a drawing for a gorgeous '55 Chevy convertible.

However, just admire the cars. Many you can identify the year and make of, but there are many that are highly modified. I also saw several cars that have been featured in national magazines, such as Street Rodder, Car Craft, Hot Rod, and Super Chevy.

Oh, and for those fussing about video editing, I might point out that this 4-day event (Thursday-Sunday) was close to rained out, but you can only see a little sign of the cool weather at the beginning of the video; it looks like it was a great, sunny event.

Here's actually a video from the local event. Where this guy enters the tunnel, goes up the hil, and then turns left and goes down a row of cars, my car was parked just after the two T buckets you see, but I wasn't there yet. Just imagine it there!

I'm a car freak from way back. Love the shows and appreciate all the time, love, and MONEY invested in their rides. I wish I had back some of the cars from the 50's and 60's that I got rid of. I watch Barrett-Jackson and get sick when I see one of my old rides (same type) going for six figures.

I look at old cars the same way I look at tattoos. As in, I love looking at them and really appreciate nice work; but I've never, ever had the urge to do it myself. Restoration looks way too much like work to me.

Restoration can be hard, expensive, long-time work. On the other hand, there are plenty of cars in those videos that didn't take that.

I have a 1963 Impala up at my place in Arkansas. Unfortunately, it's a four-door, so it will never be terribly valuable. I've got it partially apart, and the original 283 engine is in my garage.

Some of the ones I let get away:
1964 GTO
1958 Impala convertible
1963 Pontiac Bonneville
1979 BMW 323 Euro (6 cyl)
1981 Porsche SC
1980 Porsche 930 Euro

Also a 1961 Jag XK 150S DHC. Can't find a picture of it as it was always in the shop.

Another one was my first car...a 1951 2DR Chevy sedan. It was a sleeper. Had a 265 Chevy, La Salle 3sp floor shift. Needed a paint job, but I didn't care. Bought it in the 60's for $150.

If you'd like a car like those in the video, you can register with Goodguys for a chance to win the Clean Air 55.

Clean Air 55 Entry

There will be 17 finalists chosen at Goodguys events, one per event. There will be one finalist chosen at random from among the Goodguys membership, and one chosen from on-line entries. No need to be a member.
