(Sorry for the long post, Im trying to cover all bases) I have a 16 year old cat, who until about a month ago has been extremely healthy. Due to my dog that wont leave her alone when she eats, (hes wanting her food) I feed her on the dining room table. As I was walking by one day she was just finishing eating food and gave a shake as cats do after eating, I heard a KA-THUMP, I turned around and she was lying on the floor, knowing she had fell off the table, I went to check her over and she ran into the bedroom, and under the bed, later she walked out looking fine as if nothing happened.

A few days afterwards I noticed she was breathing with her mouth open, I watched her all day, and the next day she was still breathing heavy, and it was as if overnight she had lost noticeable weight. I made an appointment and took her in, they took xrays, and she had 3 broken ribs. I was told to keep her confined, and to give her anything she wanted to eat, at that point I could only get her to eat soft cat food, she tired of that, so I got her to eat tuna fish, she tired of that, and now she will only eat cheeze whiz, sour cream, and some cat kibble (shes eaten science diet all her life)

Its been over a month, and 6-7 trips to the vet, since this initial fall off the table, she has lost at least 5 pounds, is very skinny looking, her coat is dull, her eyes have been fully dialated for weeks now, and I noticed she seemed sore in the back end, but they have been giving her shots in the back muscle, and takeing blood from her back leg. About 4-5 days ago, she was walking and it was like her front end was going one way, her back end was wanting to go another, she was kind of staggering, when I called her name she looked at me like who are you? Or she was in some other world, like she didnt know who she was, or drunk

Things my vet has done
Xrays
Blood work to check for Leukemia, FIV, Diabetes all have come back negative
Have shown pinlight into eyes, with no response
Vitamin B shots
Pain shots

She has been at the vet for two days, but I refused to leave her there over sunday, being there are no personall there, but just an hour or two, so I have to take her back Monday, while there they took more blood work and sent to lab, of which the results were "abnormalities in the blood", and they have sent the results to their pathology department, my vet said I wouldnt here back till monday, maybe tuesday of thier findings

I brought her home earlier today, and after coming from the cat carrier she is half walking, half dragging her hind area, will take a step or two with her back legs, then drag again. This has been 8 hours since home, and still half walking/dragging

I immedietly called the vet back, and talked to the vet tech who assured me that when animals are confinded to small places and are not moving around much, their legs will go to sleep, and that could be whats going on, he said shes only laid there since dropping her off the other day. And shes been laying because I was told to keep her confined, he told me every hour move her to her other side, and massage her feet and back legs carefully to keep the circulation moving

Ive checked online myself, but I dont know what to look for, and I just cant put myself through that, Im not an expert and of course will only come to horrible conclusions

I can not afford another vet, as this is my personal vet, and he allows me to pay as I can, any other vets want payment upfront, Ive called just about every vet in a 50 mile radius

Im so frantic, what are they missing?

How scary this must be... I don't have any knowledge of what could be wrong with your kitty- all I can do is say I really, really hope they figure it out soon.

Generalized weakness usually shows in the legs. So there's probably not anything wrong with her legs, per se, but just weakness.

Have the vet run bloodwork. Especially thyroid.

Oops, just saw they did run bloodwork. . .I hope they find what's wrong with her when it comes back. It's so scary when we just don't know what's wrong.

Thank you for the kind words, this morning I was going back to the vet to see how she was doing, but before I could get there, the phone rang that changed my world forever. The vet called to tell me, she had just passed away.

And that minutes after that, the pathology reports came in, that she had had Liver Cancer

As with all of you who has lost a beloved pet, my heart is just broken in two

Oh, I'm so sorry! How difficult.

She had a good, long life with you -because you took such good care of her, right up to the end. She's at peace now. You did all anyone could have to help her.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear about this... that is right up there with the worst phone calls ever. I hope it comforts you to know that your beloved kitty is now running and playing across the Rainbow Bridge, free of pain and watching over you.

If she is on dry food, try moist and vice versa........maybe you could try asking at your local pet food/supply store to see if they have any suggestions. If all else fails, try to get her to a vet if you can possibly afford it.
