Hi all,

I am so so heartbroken today. I am trying not to cry in front of Calvin and Hobbes and putting on a brave face but I feel so horrible. I am leaving for 6 weeks today and do not know how I will survive without my 2 kitties. Except for 1.5 days, I have not been away from them. I am sure they will be ok but they will have to be alone all day. Hubby will take care of them and he loves them so much and is really caring but he has to work long hours. I do have a pet sitter lined up for emergencies and she is great with the boys and they like her too. I am leaving some clothes that I was wearing in their room. This is a work trip mostly, and then I will visit my sister. With all the health issues the kitties have had in the past, I feel so bad leaving them. I know not many would understand what i am feeling but i know members here will understand why I am sitting here bawling.

Can all of us get some of the magic vibes so that the next 6weeks are not too hard on us and that it passes really fast?

Oh, of course we understand - I have to admit I haven't been away from home since I got my cats and I would be very anxious about leaving them, and they're great big adult cats.

Just keep telling yourself that your husband will be watching them, that you've lined up that emergency back up for him, and that your boys couldn't be in a better home - and that you're sending them your love every day while you're gone. They'll miss you, for sure - but that's the down side of having the best mommy in the world. Especially for little Hobbes - without you and your husband, who knows what would have happened for him - but now he's loved.

BTW, I do call my kitties from work every day. And maybe your husband can leave on some soft music on for them every day when he leaves. And who knows - the boys may end up bonding even closer with each other, now that they really have to rely on each other for a good part of the day.

Oh, I understand how you feel. I hate leaving mine for just a couple days. And always when I'm driving home, every day, I think, "I get to see my kitties soon!" and my mood lightens.
Calvin and Hobbes will be just fine on their own during the day. But the whole thing will be hard on you.

So lots of that the time goes fast and you don't pine for them too much.

I'm sorry you are having to leave for so long. However, they will be absolutely FINE! Really! Cats are independent and adaptable...and just think how very sweet the reunion will be in 6 weeks.

The Weather Channel is great for them to listen to during the day! It has a good mixture of human voices and bad music!

Have a good, safe trip and just try and put the kitties out of your mind while your gone. I try and do that, as there's nothing that can be done to change things, so I try not to waste time worrying!

I know exactly how you feel!
It's the main reason why I never go on a long vacation: I'd be too worried about the furkids while I was away - especially my FIP cats & Geronimo. He can't even stand it if I'm in the bathroom for any length of time: he'll sit and whine till I come out. I'd hate to think what he'd do if I was ever gone for more than a few hours!

I'm sure your furkids will be just fine - especially if your hubby loves them as much as you do. You'll probably miss them more than they'll miss you.

Thanks everyone. I am waiting at the airport, hoping I was home with the boys. They will most likely take the separation much better than I will. DH said he will send be regular updates and pics. I just want them to be safe and happy. I also have not been away from DH for this long in the last 8 yrs or so. I just need to look forward to returning and guess enjoy as much as I can in the meantime. The plus is: I will see my dad and sis after 2 yrs, my mom after 1 and my bro in law after 3 yrs! Just wish I was meeting them all at my place.

*hugs*

I know how agonizing it is to be away from our family!! The longest I was away from Abby is 2 weeks when I was in the hospital in 2004, and again for 3 or 4 days last summer, again due to hospitalization. The caretaker and my brother were both checking in on her. I had the caretaker check in too because my brother tends to be irresponsible at times.

The one time I voluntarily left my babies was in 2003 when I went to Detroit to visit a friend for 5 or 6 days. That time I had my nephew staying with Chynna
and Abby. But I still called him daily to find out how they were doing.

Your DH is with your babies. So they will be fine!!! And just think....you will get to see the rest of your family.

One thing to look forward to is the fact that when you come home your babies will be pasted up against you like velcro because they will have missed you!!!

Jamie has been left with DH for a month several times while I've visited my family, and other than being mad at me has been fine and formed a stronger bond with his Daddy. I call at least once a week and sometimes get to talk to him on the phone, and he always appreciates the souvenirs. Lots of that the time passes quickly!

I feel your pain! I took Aya home to the States and had to leave her with my folks for the 3 1/2 months left on my contract here in Japan. It's hard. I even have a foster kitty cuddles, sweet as she is she's not my Aya.

I have 2 1/2 mos left before I see my kitty.

I find myself skyping mom almost every night just to hear how she's getting on. I worry about her getting let out and not coming back home.

Six weeks is really not bad. Just think how much longer it could be.

Awww. They'll be fine. Now you can look forward to your happy reunion, maybe with new toys you picked up for them while on your trip. Hope you have a safe journey.

I'm sorry you have to be away from your furkids for such a long period of time, but am happy that you'll be able to spend some time with your family. The boys will be fine, but they will miss you.

When I did my internship for college, I had to move into the area for the semester. I would come home on Friday nights and would leave again on Sunday nights. It was during the spring semester, too, so there were times when the weather didn't cooperate and I didn't make it home. It was the first time I was ever away from DH and DS for such a long period of time and I missed them, even tho I was coming home on weekends.

But I really missed my furkids. I called home every few days and when we would go out shopping, I always bought a little something for the cats. They were fine, although I think they did miss me, too.

The first weekend I came home after being away for the week, Banshee flew down the steps to the front door. When I walked in the door, she went to the first step, sat down, and.....turned her back to me! I was devastated and the tears started to flow. But she wanted to make sure that I knew she was upset with me....after she realized that I knew she was miffed, she leaped into my arms. And that was the way it was every Friday night when I'd come home.

Your DH will take care of the furkids. I know you'll worry, but try to enjoy the time with your family, too.

I very rarely leave the kitties for longer than a day or 2 for this very reason, and I have a lot of people i could call on to watch them for me. It's just so hard to be away from them!

Hope tie flies for ya sweetie!

I knew your trip was coming up and I do understand how hard this must be for you
. I cannot stand to leave my cats, not even for a few days. I am sure Calvin and Hobbes will be fine but will miss you!! At least your DH will be there at night for them. Hopefully the six weeks will go quite fast for you

Thanks all for the wishes. It's been hard without the furbabies and DH has done a great job in keeping me updated, sending me pics of the boys. Apparently they get really clingy when DH gets home in the evenings. Also they have been smelling my pillow. I miss them so much. Can't wait to get home to them.
In the mean time enjoying time with my parents, sister and bro-in-law. We go on a week-long road trip tomorrow.

I don't know how I missed this thread (I was wondering why you didn't say good bye to your TCS family!!!!
).

Have a GREAT TIME with your family - and I'm so glad DH is being good about keeping you up and sending you pictures.
I can't imagine how difficult it is! BUT - they ARE with DH, and you're doing EXCITING things, and get to be with your family.

time flies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DH has still been sending me updates on the boys. They've become extemely clingly when hubby returns home. Things have not been as smooth with family as I would have liked and I miss DH and the babies even more. 3.5 more weeks and I'll be home with my fur babies.
