Peeing in the bathtub?

One of my older guys has started nosing his way into the bathroom when it is in use, hopping into the bathtub and taking a full pee! He looks at you the entire time, and when he's done he hops out and leaves the room. This has happened several times in the last month. He still uses the box (I see him) and the boxes are kept clean. We do have a box in our bedroom (closest to bathroom) and it could be that it was in use when he needed to go . . . has anyone else experienced this? I hated to yell at him--better the tub than in a corner. He's about 13 or 14.

Peeing in sinks, bathtubs and drains is pretty common indicator of a urinary tract problem.
He is trying to let you know something is wrong, which is why he makes sure you see it.

I have a six month old femaile kitten who has just started using the bathroom sink. I have tried filling it with water, and she will drink from it, but if it is empty, whe will urinate in ot and also does not care if she is seen. She uses her box. I had her tesed with a urinalysis and culture a few months ago, and am waiting for a new set of results now. The first is negative. I am at a loss myself, and hesitate to close off the athroom so she does not start looking for more places to go. Se has gone on the carpets recently and I hope it is because I was not cleaning her box enough. I have resigned myself to cleaning two boxes (I have a 8 month older dominant kitten) twice a day.

So far, I have not had a lot of luck with this stubborn kitten.

Do you use the tub to wash (or soak) your litter boxes? My 3 year old male does the same thing. I don't pay it any mind. I just run the faucet to wash his pee down the drain. He also does this right after I empty a litter box (in preparation to replace it with a clean box with clean litter). He pees in the empty box! There is nothing wrong with him - he's been doing this since I've had him. I'm sure it has something to do with the smells. I soak the dirty boxes in the tub for a day or so, and rotate them. This way I always have a clean box ready when I change the litter. I wouldn't worry about it...

Interesting post! I feel for you!

I have two cats. 7 and 5.5 sterilised females. One recently started using the tub to pee. I'm not sure which one it is but took a urine sample of both to the vet and there is no blood so the vet thinks its behavioural.

I'm really at a loss too. Could it still be a health issue if there is no blood in the urine? I can't possibly think of anything that would have triggered a behavioural issue as I haven't changed anything recently!!!
Box is cleaned very often as well frown.gif

My Phoebe will do this... She is always cleared of crystals or urinary tract infections... I figured out that she would do it before I had her spayed when she was in heat.   Then after she was spayed, she'd do it if anyone of the other cats would use "her" litter box.  So I now have 2 per cat.  And I keep hers (all of them really) very clean because if one of the others uses one of her boxes, even if it is just pee, she will try to use the tub or sink!  She is very particular about that!!!

But your cat being older, it could be illness or it could be him just getting old, grumpy, and perhaps a little senile.  Talk to your vet about it is my best advice!  Best of luck!! rub.gif

A friend has a couple of Siamese cats that pee in the sink - it seems likely they are copying her peeing in the loo.  Both cats are completely well, and we both reckon it saves cat litter.  Personally so long as the cat is well I'd let them get on with it.  The bath is easier and cheaper to clean than a litter tray!

It's not so nice when they step in their own urine and then walk all over the bathroom frown.gif
