Fingal, who was one year old on 7 May, fell off the window from a 6th floor, a week ago. Thank God, he did not break or sprain anything, just got few bruises and cut palate.
This is all taken care of and he is fine - physical wise. But, I am worried about his mental state. Since then, he keeps somehow to himself, and he can get inside of a couch. And that's where he is, most of the day. He practically gets out only to go to his sand box and to eat.
Can anyone tell me is this just a phase he's going through?. I try to do anything to make it as much comfortable for him as possible.
Has anyone had similar experience?. I would appreciate the tips, any tips you are willing to share with me.

Thank you soooo much!!.

How do you know he is unhurt? Did you take him to a vet?

Cats will hide when they are in pain so having him hide would be a concern to me.

He's probably just a bit shaken and in shock. Just talk to him when you can to comfort him and let him recover mentally.

I hope he comes around soon!

If you haven't taken him to the vet you should. If you did take him. You should call your vet and tell them what he's doing, something else can still be wrong.

Thank you all for your great wishes.
Yes, I took him to the vet immediately. He checked him for internal damages and breaks, everything was fine.
I am more afraid of his mental state, to be honest. I know he's probably bruised but I'm just afraid that he will stay like he is now, keeping to himself and not much for playing or having fun as before.
But, I hope he will recover soon and he will be like he was before.

There could be something else going on. He could be sick and not connected to the fall.

Still, that is a huge fall and I would definately take him back to the vet. He is telling you he is not feeling well.

Sending he is better real soon.

There's no place like home
If the vet ruled out broken bones, I suspect that he is still in a lot of pain from the bruising and the cut palate. I was in a car accident recently and while nothing was broken, I was very sore for a couple of weeks. I was subdued during that time, and have to assume that Fingal will also be subdued.

I would suggest that you call your vet and talk about his current behavior. Ask about getting some low grade pain medication for him. I would also inquire about the possibility of internal bleeding if he didn't run any x-rays or ultrasounds at the time of your visit. If that wasn't done, ask about it now.

It's not surprising that he is hiding right now, but don't assume its from mental stress. Remember that many cats wander off and hide when they are seriously ill.

Cats also can probably get a concussion just like people do might have that due to the fall and unless the vet xrayed his head it would be hard to tell. Give him time I'm sure hes sore and still recovering
