First off,
I know people will typically have a response of "Go to the Vet! TAke the cat to the vet!" I'm not going through the trouble of posting on this forum to get those stock answers and know very well that going to the vet is a consideration. Plus, that is possibly one of the least helpful answers ever; it's like someone asks a question and someone else says 'Look it up!" like that's an answer? Go to the vet is not an answer to aquestion.

Here's the situation. My cat slightly burned his left paw. I put a bandage on it and some skin is peeling off. I let him lick it instead of bandage and it started bleeding, but now looks much better after he allowed to lick. I'm not allowing him to go into litter (don't want litter on his paw) for awhile.

The question is: is it better to bandage a paw or to allow the cat to lick it with his own natural salivatory antibiotics. AFter doing bandages for 2 days, I think it's in a better phase of healing (I used tons of disenfectant and wipes, and cleaning it, and sanitizer). So I think it's a good phase-out of bandage (past 24-48 hours) and now in lick mode (self-cleansing) seems proper.

If it doesn't improve in awhile will consider vet.

TL;DR is it better to bandage a cat's paw or let the cat lick it (licking it seemed to be healthier for it).

When my cat cut his paw on a razor from the tub (Note to everyone, do not leave razors on the rim of the tub!), I took him to the vet and they bandaged it. They said leave the bandage on until the paw is completely healed. I didn't have to put any ointment or anything on the wound, just leave the bandage on and let them change it once.

I assume its the same as yours, leave the bandage on until it heals?

I am not a fan of home-treatments, especially when one is not a vet themselves. but.. good luck, I guess.

first not really advice and second did it get better? my cat has had a similar problem and licking is all she has done. I took her to a vet and he said in my case she kept it clean and said it should heal on it's own. It has been a few weeks and i'm worried she's licking too much now. i have found small light blood spots and see her constantly licking also.

In your case, I would call your vet and see if this is in line with what they expected or if it's not healing properly. A few weeks seems a long time to me, but I'm not sure how serious the original injury was.

You posted on an old thread, and I'm not sure the OP is active anymore to answer you.

Since the Vet already saw her and didn't think any veterinary care was needed, after you call them back, if they say they don't need to see her, you might try some Colloidal Silver on the wound.  It's really great for healing wounds, even fairly large ones
