My cat is 2 years old. Every few months he poops but it seems to attach to his bottom and he then drags his bottom all through the house trying to shift it. Usually we have to bath him to get it off but it takes 3 of us to achieve this (and sometime more than one attempt). He doesn't seem to be in pain when he poops and there doesn't seem to be a reason for it. When he poops it seems like he's not lifting his bottom high enough and so it sticks. He also has a very fluffy tail just to make things worse! Any ideas?

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

What do you feed him...wet or dry or both? I had a cat that used to do this and after the vet determined that her anal sacs weren't full or anything like that, we figured out that she would get constipated and then her stools would get hard making it hurt when she pooped. We think she would scoot on the floor to "scratch" the area.
So....we upped her wet food intake which helped as well as added some plain canned pumpkin to her wet food to help with the constipation. This helped make her stool softer and less painful for her when she pooped.
I would recommend a trip to the vet to be sure the anal sacs aren't impacted or blocked up first, though.

My boy is a long hair/floofy tailed cat and I have had to have the "hygiene" shave done on him since day one. I take him to petsmart once a month and have them shave the top/back legs - a few inches on the underside of the tail base and anywhere in the line of poop from bum down to ... well... you know. This helped greatly.
I have discovered a few ways that seem to help make MY guys poop better.
1. No wet food - my guy gets really sick tummy from wetfood. ANY wet food (I tried pretty much every brand and every time had the same results - eat and immediately had to use the litterbox - and it was NEVER solid.
2. I give my kitty pumpkin (a tea to tablespoon depending on how his tummy is doing) twice a day. He loves his pumpkin so that is good.
3. GRASS! cat grass is great for their tummy and great fibre... and they all seem to love it
I still check my boy's bum for cleanliness and keep wetwipes on hand every time he uses the litter box. I have trained him to prance out and let me "check yer bum!" and clean it if necessary.
Hope this helps.
