HI all
been a bit sparse on here lately,I have been so busy
My sister in law phoned me the other day (I have moaned about her before) her 4 year old cat had kittens 9 weeks ago, against my advice she rehomed 3 of them at just 6 weeks old and she has one left which she said she would keep,so she has mum,the kitten and a dog,she has no intention of getting mum spayed and she is outdoors so will get pregnant soon again,I have offered to get her a voucher for low cost but no response really, she lives about 2 hours drive away from me so helping her in another way is not possible.
That is not my gripe though, when she phoned me and said because of her new job (she works nights and bf works days) she now has no time for the animals and so wants to rehome them and also she ismoving soon and doesn't want them with her,she said the mum cat cries for food all day and the kitten drives her mad and the dog she just doesn't like as it is bf's,he has agreed to "get rid".She phoned me asking for help, worse person to phone I am so upset.I told her to advertise the kitten when he is 12 weeks and I am sure she will get an offer of a good home. The dog I am going to ask my next door neighbour as she has 2 dogs already and loves staffordshire bull terriers and cares so much for her dogs, staffy is what sil has ( I pray she says yes). But mum cat I don't know, who wants a 4 year old cat really? and she is not spayed so could possibly be pregnant,I am so flamin mad, really am,she got rid of her old dog and mum cat she has had since she was 8 weeks, how capeople just "get rid" like that as they have had enough?
I ahve asked dh about having mum cat and he said no straight away, our cats have just started to really settle down after Harvey going and he said it wouldn't be fair at all on them,Harvey was a boistrous boy though and we invaded his home so I think that was different.I just feel that if I took in mum cat I would get her spayed and really look after her.I may be able to convince dh but really would it be fair on my cats?
Dh says I always get too involved and take on other peoples problems but I find it very hard to ignore and I want to make sure these lovely girls(and boy) get a loving home that they deserve.
Any advice would be apprecated
Thankyou xx

Wow, that is just so screwed up, of course you're really angry! I guess the good news is she IS getting rid of the animals - better for them! I just hope she doesn't get any more!!!!! (Is there any way for you to call the rescues around where's she's moving to get her put on a "do not adopt" list????? Something to think about!)

As to the momma cat.... can you afford a large dog kennel kind of thing? What about making her an outdoor kitty with you until you can find a home/barn for her or something? She's used to being outside.... she'd just need to be "locked in" something for at least a month so she doesn't try to run away when you let her out.
(Thus I ask about the large kennel).

Is she a particularly pretty or sweet cat? Has anyone called around to shelters to see if they could take her in? I know - it's a bad season right now. I think it's probably kitten-land there now too.

As usual, Laurie is right on all counts. You're so good to want to help these poor critters... I hope you can take this kitty on somehow, at least temporarily. Really, four-year-old cats do get adopted -- when I was volunteering at the shelter, we had one fellow about ten years old and over 30 pounds, but by golly, someone fell in love with him and he finally got a home!

Thankyou for your advice,I actually prefer older cats to kittens to adopt as I liek to give older kitties a chance.I will be asking my neighbour later about the dog, hope she says yes,I think she will as she's a lovely lady and already ahs 2 rescue dogs. The kitten I am positive she will be able to rehome.Really all our shelters are kill shelters apart from a couple of private ones.Dh won't let me get too involved he hates it when I do stuff for her becaue he said she revels in just sitting back and letting everyone else do everything for her. I will try and talk him into letting us take on mum cat,I think her name is poppy, she is I a fluffy black girl and sil said she is very friendly, she really needs to be spayed very soon before it's too late and she gets pregnant again, sil said she is tiny and is always hungry "I said of course she's always hungry she had babies a few weeks ago and the one left is still feeding off her" grrrr some people are stupid, she has kids of her own too so I thought she would have realised this.
I'll do what I can and talk to dh and my neighbour, will let you know,oh and I have told her she better not even have as much as a fish after this or I will not be responsible for my actions.x

I hope your neighbor takes the dog.

The kitten should be able to find another home. And I hope your DH will agree to taking the mama for awhile.

When I wanted another baby, I had to take a kitten. And it had to be a girl, too, because our BooBoo is our resident male and he has decided that all new cats must be babies and girl babies at that. The last time we brought a young (not a kitten) boy into the house, Boo made that kitty's life miserable for quite a while. Oddly, he doesn't hassle girl kittens though. DH says Boo likes being the only male and likes having his "harem".

And that's why you're so special!

But really, it might just be temporary - just a way to "buy" some time while you find her a home.

But I really would call around to the rescues wherever she moves and put her on a "do not adopt" list. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am working on Dh,I didn't know you could do that with shelters,to be honest I think if she got another animal it wouldn't be from a shelter. Her last dog that she had her own grandfather reported her to the RSPCA as it was so hungry it ate a hole in the door, they took it off her.Dear me its such a hard situation to be in with her being family,dh doesn't particuarly like her anyway and we don't have much to do with her but I have to at the minute as I want these poor babies to get a good home, even though I feel like screaming at her.x
