What is the best way to clean a cat's teeth and mouth? I have been noticing that one of my cat has some bad breath.

As that's often a sign of gingivitis, an infected rotton tooth, or an abcess or something, all of which need to be treated with more than a cleaning, it's best to schedule a dental with a vet, I think.

For ongoing dental care, we brush Spooky's teeth. It was too hard for us though, as she LOVES to be brushed with a brush on her cheeks. We just bought a bunch of small tooth brushes, and started "brushing" her cheeks with a tooth brush. She'd rub her teeth and gums on the brush as well, so it was pretty easy to transition to just brushing her teeth with the toothbrush.

I'm not convinced it helps much. She still gets plaque build-up, and requires a dental every six months. Her three brothers don't need them much - so far it's been about every two years or so. None of them have ever required any extractions, and she's needed I think.. 5? 4? so far. So part of it is just genetics.

You can also use dental treatsafter the vet dental. My cats do well with Feline Greenies. The Greenies can be fed as a treat and help to scrub away tartar and plaque. They also help with "kitty breath"

Some cats do not let you brush their teeth - in case your cat is a stubborn one or incase you aren't all up on wanting to brush... Letting your cat eat cat grass (you can buy it pre grown or grow it yourself - every petstore sells it) helps with the bad breath. I like to give my boy kisses after he eats his grass cuz hims breath is allllllll fresh.
He loves his grass too - will cry and beg for some

Start out small though - if they eat too much it can cause them to yack or yucky poop... you will need to find the right amount for your kitty.

I wont lie when I say we haven't been very good at keeping up with brushing. But upon seeing that our middle boy, Bailey-Reed's teeth needed attention, we got back into action. We will not be brushing their teeth twice a day for a couple of weeks before moving it down to once a day and using a dental spray for the off brush times.

BUT, I am curious because after brushing Bailey-Reed's teeth for a day and a half, I've noticed something white on one side of his gums only. Like a cluster of puss spread out. I think it may have been cause by something new happening in his mouth. We're going to give it a couple of days and if there is no change, he'll be getting vet treatment. He's the sweetest most sensitive boy I have ever known and the only one who wants to be as near me as possible. I love all 3 of my boys equally but my heart feels a bit softer towards him due to his sensitivity.

Anyways...if anyone has anything to share, great! Other than that, I'll be updating periodically.

I solved the bad breath/bad teeth issue easily.

I feed raw chicken wings or necks as a twice monthly treat.
The act of eating them keeps their teeth beautiful

I just want to make sure that it's not too late. I hope that he doesn't need to go to the vet. It's so costly.
