sick cat?

Hi. My two year old cat started acting weird yesterday and we can't figure out what is causing it. She is really tense when we go to pick her up (she usually doesn't mind being held). She is very skittish. She walks around really slow and near the ground as if she is hunting but the slightest sound or movement scares her. Earlier she jumped when I sniffled and when we moved a lap top cord she jumped 3 feet up. She also looks like she is constantly sniffing and sees something moving. She is an indoor cat. When around our other cat she usually tries to play but now just stares at our cat. She is afraid to jump off a bed. She peed on the carpet which hasn't happened since she was a kitten. We can't figure out what is wrong, any ideas?

It sounds like she is most likely sick and in pain, and because of that, she is fearful. I would get her checked by a vet asap.

I totally agree with Minka. Being sick makes a cat feel vulnerable, which translates to skittish and reclusive. It's best to get her to a vet.

Sounds like she has become very defensive all of a sudden. Like Minka I would suspect pain of some sort. I would get her to the vet as soon as possible.

It sounds to me like a urinary tract infection (URI) because of the inappropriate peeing and may need antibiotics. She is probably in great discomfort so please take her to a vet sooner rather than later.

Sheeba ended up not having a UTI as of right now. They said it could be a beginning to a bladder infection but she did not shows signs of one. Or it could be a change in the environment. or a stomach issue, but since the stomach is under the ribs they can't feel it. But she is much more herself now and isn't walking around like she is in pain. She may have been constipated, this morning she defecated a lot. If she continues to act weird we'll take her back with a stool sample. Also, they said there is a pheromone collar she could wear that could help her attitude if that is what is causing her mood change. But things look up from here!

So glad Sheeba does not have a UTI and is feeling better. So happy things are looking up
