First time Forum user and my cat is unwell! Help!

Hi

This is the first time I have ever done this so bear with me but I am really worried about my boy.

My Cat Coco is usually very vocal and afectionate. He talks all the time and wants constant attention and is very loving. Tonight he greeted us without a single meow which is unusual as you can hold a conversation with him even though you dont know what on eartth he is saying) and didnt eat his food. He popped out with his sister in the garden but came back in and slept upstairs. Since I have tried to give him attention and he barely managed a meow when i stroked under his chin. I have tried this a couple of times and same reaction. Has he eaten something odd? He is now flaked out on his tummy and isn't very responsive, not like my little boy at all. I picked him up on his back to feel his tummy and he didnt seem bothered but meowed eventually so I put him down.

I will take him to the vets tomorrow regardless but I am worried about him tonight! Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
xx

Fingers crossed! It's so quiet without his constant nagging the poor thing!

Is there any after-hours hospital or emergency vet clinic you can call ? How unresponsive does Coco appear to be ? Is he stable enough to do basic functions like eat, drink, and go to the bathroom as he normally does ? It could be something that was ingested which hasn't fully manifested yet.

When you've noticed odd behaviors over a few hours but are not sure if it's an emergency, my rule of thumb is to call a doctor to see what they recommend you do.

Does he go out regularly, or has he been indoors all day? If the former, there are any number of possible poisons, etc., that he might have come in contact with. If he's been indoors, there are still possible poisons, but I'd make sure you're not missing any strings that he might have swallowed.

Oh I'm so sorry! Whenever we're worried, we use the same rule of thumb as elayman. But it's quite late there now (you're in the UK I think?), so hopefully it's just a virus or something.

for your boy!

Please give us an update on your cat when you have one.

I have read this pretty late and you've probably already been to the vet. With the information you provided my first thought is that the poor baby got into something toxic. Please post an update when you can.

Hi Everyone

Firstly thank you for your support on this. Secondly sorry for the late response!

Bizaarly enough Coco spent the whole evening in bed with me (I kicked the fella out so I could keep an eye) and he slept on my head as usual and purred all night. In the morning he was back to normal, shouting all thoughout the house! I took him to the vets anyway and all is well. It could have been a reaction to a scary fight, which he does tend to do or had eaten something that made him sick.
Yesterday he brought us another egg (we have this a lot with him) and I caught him being sick after so it could be that he has eaten something dodgy.

So all is well in Coco land and I am so happy! But I do wish he would stop bringing in eggs and shrews. Not great bless him

Aw, thanks for letting us know he's alright! That's great news! (Does sound like he might have eaten something dodgy though LOL).
