I've been donating out my crafting skills, in my home town in exchange for small bits of money Ive been adding to a fund to help a local charity. They posted a story on their website that really affected me,

Two years ago I adopted a rescue cat, who had been found at the local dump, Left to die, and was malnourished and basically skin and bones, we took her in and fell in love with her, She was so terrified of everything, but once she knew she was safe she was a little ball of love.

But unfortunately one day she got out of a window that had been left open, and it all went down hill from there. She dissapeared, for nearly 6 weeks, and we were devistated, Calling local vets, CRD, going door to door, but it seemed to get us no where, Then one day I came home from work, and she was hiding underneath the neighbors car, We had found her!
We took her inside instantly, so excited to have her home.. Only to realise there was something wrong, worse then we knew at the time..
She had contracted a disease while she was gone, which showed little at first, and got worse with time. Her weight she had gained while with us was now gone, And her fur started falling out, we spent day after day at the vet, Trying everything we could think of to help.. But nothing would, And it just kept getting worse.

Finally we knew she was suffering more then she should have to, at that point she could no longer eat, stand, or even hold the weight of her own head up, we had to put her to sleep. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life, I had sewn her a bed when we first got her, and through the days when she was sick, she barely left it, and eventually we buried her with it.

I felt so helpless that I couldn't do anything more to help, But I was there day in and day out to try everything I could, and that's what I think is just so heart breaking, when I saw this post, with this poor cat, malnourished to the point of being skin and bone, and I can't imagine how terrified shelter animals must be, not having their family to take care of them, to hold them, to pet them, to be a constant pressence for them.
People like the ones at the local shelters we have in our area, are just so amazing, being that pressence for them, spending their days helping bring them back from the brink, and I honestly wish I could help so much more then I am able to, as just one person, So that's why I've started this, a fund for people who share the same feeling as I do, that these sick and abused animals should get all the help they could possibly need.

So please, If you could help me, help them, I honestly couldn't thank you enough, Anything truly does help.

I am sorry about your lovely cat and how she died, it sounds like you gave her so much love in her life
. I do share your feelings about cats in the shelters and I try to do what I can by volunteering time and spending time loving, brushing and holding the cats. At least they can rely on a few of us to come in regularly to visit them and show them love. I want so much more for all of the cats living out their lives in shelters. So many and there is only so much we can do about it.
