Best litter for nursing mom cat - need suggestions!

Hi y'all, my recently rescued mommy kitty Squeaky is nursing her 4 babies (born 2 weeks ago) and I started her on pine litter shortly after I found out she was pregnant, because I read that the pine litter was the best for kittens to start on. She never had problems pooping or peeing outside the box before, but now she does (fortunately she is currently living in our downstairs bathroom with her babies) and she also kicks the litter box out of the way and spreads the litter around outside the box.

My question is, should I just stick with regular clay non-clumping litter, or can I try the crystals? I know I can't go back to the clumping litter till the babies are older....

I would recommend Swheat Scoop Multicat (green bag). Although it is clumping, it is safe for use with kittens per the label on the bag.

Clay and chemical free. Unlike many scoopable litters, Swheat Scoop litter contains no silica dust, sodium bentonite, chemicals or flowery fragrances. Which is good news for your cat and you.

Safely digestible. Swheat Scoop litter is safe and non-toxic for cats and kittens, as well as other household pets. The granules can be licked during grooming or digested without serious health consequences.

Soft on sensitive paws.
For cats and kittens with tender paws, Swheat Scoop litter is a softer choice than many clay or pelleted litters. In fact, it’s so gentle, it’s even recommended by veterinarians for newly declawed cats.

Cat accepted.
Cats are creatures of habit, and can be apprehensive when they encounter a different litter. But they find it easy to get used to Swheat Scoop litter because it looks and feels like conventional litter.
One downside is that before its been used the first time, if Wesley is hungry he'll lick it. Its high protein food, but you don't want them chowing down on it. After they pee or poop on it once though, they have zero interest in eating it.

Thanks, will have to give that a try! I'll actually be glad to get rid of the pine litter too, it makes the bathroom smell kind of like a barn

Or go with World's Best Cat Litter. It's corn based so if ingested, it poses less of a risk than clay. Swheat Scoop is soooo dusty, IMO.
