mixing litter?

is it a good idea to mix litter ?

Mix what with what? I've mixed Swheat Scoop w/ World's Best and it was fine. If I mixed it w/ half clay though, obviously it wouldn't be flushable anymore. And if I mixed it with a non-clumping litter, the litter would still have to be replaced frequently as the lowest common denominator. Mixing clay with crystals would also create quite a mess.

But I can't think of any litters that are going to mix and produce some kind of toxic witches brew or anything.

In fact it is often recommended when transitioning from one litter to another to do a bit of a mix, putting some of the old on top of the new.

I don't know if you are talking about mixing litter to make a new litter and use the formula permanently or if you are talking about slowly switching brands of litter.

I'm going to assume you are talking about switching to a new brand. Gradually add the new brand on top of the old litter until your cat is used to using the new litter and you're good to go.

I got many boxes and many mixes(and a some pure boxes too! for the cats who have prefferances)

I have
horse pine pellets and clay
horse pine pellets and the sand like crystal litter(GOOD STUFF!!!)
paper(carefresh for hamster cages and the like) and clay

also have all clay, all crystal, did do all paper but that box was a pain-changes were either to often(wasted money) or it stunk

do want to try paper and pine at some point.

What exactley are you trying to mix?

I used to mix Swheat scoop and WBCL because Swheat scoop was a little less than the other. Mixing clumping corn and clumping wheat products is fine. Mixing clumping clay brands together would work too. I would not mix non-clump with clumping, you will lose the clumping ability. if you are switching litters then just start mixing the new litter in with the old.

by mixing litter i mean just mixing one kind of litter with another, i was running low on my 'scoop away' litter and i just bought 'worlds best litter' and i mixed them half & half , my girlfriend says its bad to mix litter & i just wanted to see what the more experienced cat owners have to say

Mixing those two shouldn't be problem. I mix some non-clumping with clumping to save some money. (non clumping is cheaper) Just so you don't mix flushable with non-flushable then flush it. That could be a problem
