Just before my birthday two years ago I decided to go and get my hair trimmed because it was looking a little uneven (for some reason one side of my hair grows faster than the other).

My hair cut was supposed to look the same as it always had, like this, only slightly shorter:

it ended up coming out like this, but with extremely short, blunt bangs:

Needless to say, I felt like Willy Wonka for my entire birthday.

I used to always go to Super Cuts to get my bangs trimmed and my eyebrows waxed, always by the same lady. She was very nice and always did a good job. I guess she quit or something because she wasn't there the last few times I've been there, so I finally decided to let someone else cut them. Bad idea. They were blunt (not what I asked for), obviously uneven and way too short.

I let my bangs grow out and just cut them myself now. They're swept to the side, so it doesn't really seem to matter if they're even or not, lol. I'm happy with the results most of the time.

The worst was about 10 months ago when I took my boyfriend and I decided to treat ourselves and go get our hair trimmed - we both have longer hair, a few inches past our shoulders (he's growing his to donate for wigs). I was shocked when the bill came to $70!

Aww, a Peanut hat!! Grow grow grow!!

I am 30 years old and never went to a salon. My mom's always been my hairdresser, for coloring and cutting. Since I moved across the country, I've learned to do my own color (I do a good job actually, especially with having long hair now!), and she still cuts/trims my hair when we visit, but now I've started chopping my own bangs.
They're never even, but I make it long enough so I can wear them a bit messed up looking (not combed super straight down) and you can't tell they're crooked.
One day I will just suck it up and try getting a haircut from a stranger... maybe.

At least my hair grows pretty fast, but goodness gracious, I don't want to leave my house...

Maybe I can put Peanut on my head and somehow devise a way to wear him as a hat!

When I was 12, I had waist-length very wavy hair. I always took care of my hair, but my mother hated it. She took me to a salon for a "trim". It took my mom and 2 stylists to hold me down. When they were finished, my hair was above my chin and my "bangs" were about 1/2-inch long with my ears sticking out.....it was so short.

It was so bad that when we got back home, my father threw a fit and asked my mother what the h*ll she had been thinking! He actually wanted to buy me a wig. The other kids teased about it for a good month or so until school finally left out for the summer....and I'm talking about serious teasing. It was nasty. And I had to get my school picture taken looking like that. God, it was just awful. (My mother, of course, thought that it was just adorable. And she couldn't understand why I refused to leave the house.)

You just don't do that to a young girl. You just don't. To this day, I have a phobia about short hair.

No, you don't. That age in particular you're so sensitive that something like a bad haircut can be traumatic. Especially as they cut it against your will like that!
I've had a million bad haircuts, dye jobs, perms in my time. I've kinda given up trying to find a stylist I like. Now I just use coupon deals and go to whatever salon to get a cut & colour. The last time was terrible - the stylist was just not there, like she was bored and totally switched off. I didn't look bad coming out of the salon, but boy the next day it was awful! I couldn't do a single thing with it and ended up having to wear a headband all the time.
Oh well, luckily my hair grows quickly too.

This reminds me of when I had all my hair cut off
I had long long long hair, Mom took me to the hairdresser for a trim, she just dropped me off and had to run to the grocery store for a minute, I went in and told the hairdresser that I wanted a mushroom cut
I thought my Mom was going to die when she walked in and seen what I had done!! The poor hairdresser felt awful but I loved it

Some 35 - 40 years ago I used to bleach my hair blonde and I went to my mother's hair dresser for a body perm. He didn't use a formulation for color treated hair and it literally fried my hair. It was so bad I had to have my hair cut to about an inch long and it took forever to grow out. IMO, I don't look good with short hair and it was horrible. Since then I've never colored my hair!

Okay... here you go... you asked for it!!!

It's two weeks-ish later, so it has grown out some, and of course I have it styled because I was at work. And for your viewing pleasure, PEANUT.
He's like "what's going on o.o"

Oh, but you look so cute! It may not be cut the way you wanted it, but you still look adorable! And of course, so does your fluffy buddy.

EDIT: Glenn Close! That's who you remind me of, when she was much younger! Now that's classy company to be in.

Well I like the haircut, I think it suits you. Of course, I don't know what you were trying to go for originally...

Peanut looks like "I didn't do it, I swear!"

Yes!!! I hate bad haircuts!
The last one I had was one of the worst I've ever experienced- the girl had no idea how to cut wavy hair and I wound up with lop sided layers everywhere! My dad was trying to be nice several weeks ago and he called me that day to tell me he had scheduled a hair appointment for me (I was sick and he was trying to cheer me up
). I had no clue though that he was taking me to a hair school!
By the time we got there it was too late for me to tell him no and I didn't want to be rude, so I went ahead and let the student cut my hair. Never Ever, Ever Again!!!

I actually have an appointment in the morning with my normal stylist who is great. Hopefully he can fix that other girls lopsided handiwork haha! (It's been uneven for several weeks now because I haven't had a chance to get it fixed till now
)

Yes! I got ambitious (and by ambitious I mean really stupid
) and decided to cut my own hair. Um, bad idea. I butchered it, and I was pretty broke at the time, so couldn't afford to have it fixed at a nice salon and had to go to a cheap place, where they butchered it again (to be fair, they didn't have a lot of hair to work with); only improvement was that they fixed the drastic unevenness and random parts sticking out here and there, just the basics of the mess I'd made. Ugh, I'm shuddering just remembering it. It took SOOOOOO long to grow out, too - this happened in April '09 and it wasn't "normal" again until this past February or March.

Oh, now that I've seen your picture, have to say that I don't think it's bad at all! I think if you play around with it a bit with some products I bet you can actually make it super cute!
