Hi my name is Gemma i am new here and i have 2 cats Cleo and Ava.

my problem is my cat Ava had a litter of kittens 2 weeks ago and just lastnight the other female cat Cleo decided she wanted to be mum to these kittens and keeps jumping into the bed with the kittens and mum. Mum doesnt seem to mind and cleo is not attacking the kittens she is actually cleaning them and trying to nurse them. Cleo is not and has never been pregnant. I keep taking Cleo out of the bed but she just go straight back in.
I have no idea where this behaviour has come from and i dont know what to do.

I don't really see a problem here...??
Let her pretend to be a mommy. ^^

hmm so i should just leave her be is that ok though?

Keep a close eye on them until the more experienced members at kitten care come on.

My Rosie used to groom my other two cats as if they were her own, but the kittens real Mum wasn't there. It's probably just her maternal instinct coming out just Like Rosie's because she's never had babies but she knew what to do

Heres Rosie with Jack

its just strange that she never had any interest in the kittens until lastnight. at the moment i have momma cat and kittens in the bed and then cleo is in there aswell.

It could be because she's seeing the other cat caring for the kittens that she wants a turn at it as well?

Yes, if mom doesnt mind and nothing wrong happens so let it be.

It is quite common some other cat does helps. Not seldom a male. Even studs had been seen to helping!

With studs and toms you must be somewhat cautious of course.

Here the real problem may be, the newcomer takes over. For example, carries the babies to some other place.

But if she friendly helps in the nest, and the mom is happy with it, so all is green!

Good luck!

i have just never come across this kind of thing before it seems really strange. cleo she is grooming them and making them go toilet. i suppose it gives momma cat a break.

It has to be a natural instinct just like it was with my Rosie?.

They look young themselves, are they under 1 year?

I don't have anything particularly helpful to say- I just think your babies are pretty much the cutest thing ever and I just want to cuddle them!
