Dang, I can't think of anything you haven't already tried.

Your husband is correct!! If your cat is scared, which most indoor cats will be once they get outside, no amount of searching will help very well. They can hide very well and if scared, will run even from you. If they are scared, they will not go far. They will spend the majority of their time hiding and when they are ready, they will come out. Letting your neighbors know is a very good idea, in case your cat is spotted in their yard.
One of my bobcats, Amber, got out a couple years ago. Since she is not a domestic cat, you would think that all would be lost at trying to get her back. We had a very bad wind storm that blew open a door and she got out. I did some searching, but knew this would do no good. I left some raw meat out in a secure section of the enclosure with the door open, to see if she would return. Believe it or not, the following morning, she was waiting for me outside of the enclosure. She came home sooner, because my bobcats do not get scared being outside, they love it. That is why she returned so soon. But if a cat is not familiar with being outside, it can take them a few days to come out. Chances are, your cat is very close to home, but may be too scared to come out just yet. When outside, call to and talk to her. Bring out some food (shake a bag if you feed dry or open a can if you feed wet). Sending vibes that your kitty comes home to you soon

Adding that you manage to find her and get her back inside. I wouldn't rule out anyplace a 1/4 of a mile away, though. Jamie's predecessor used to turn up within a radius of 6 - 10 km, and Miezi will wander several blocks away at times. It's unlikely that an indoor kitty will go far, but not impossible.

We don't have her yet, but...the kids I mentioned (thank God for them!) rushed over, about 1 hour ago, and said they just saw Gemma on their lawn, between the houses. I saw something cat-like moving under the shrubs, DH ran over, and we checked the neighbor's deck slats. DH was pretty sure it was Gemma! However, she darted out into the huge common area, and the kids started chasing her before we could stop them--but we're almost 100% sure it was her. She may have gone back under the neighbor's deck (they are on vacation, but the kids' dad said it would be OK to put the trap on the deck), and he'll keep an eye on the area for us.

Those kids are a God-send. If it weren't for them (and now they've drafted another kid to help!), we'd never know where Gemma was. We asked their Dad if we could treat them in some way later, and we will. They are amazing little guys!

I was feeling despondent today--between my Mom's problem, and pining over Gemma--but now, I'm feeling a bit more hopeful. I just wish I could've seen her--I miss her dear little face.

Ok, well those kids sound like little saints and I think the more people out there looking for her, the better
. I think you will soon have your Gemma home
Just more "come Home" vibes your way.

No sign of her yet (just got home from work awhile ago, and checked the trap), but I noticed that one of the junior detectives is already searching for her!

I'll keep you posted. Thank you for the vibes and kind words.

They really have been helpful, and take their jobs very seriously!

When we went for our walk, several neighbors, who normally don't see us to chat, etc., stopped to ask if we found Gemma yet, and said that they look every time they walk, and when they walk their dogs twice daily. It does pay to put flyers out.

DH said earlier that they told him they thought they saw Gemma (in the distance, behind the houses) again.

I asked DH to check the trap before he went to work today--and Gemma was in it (my tactic of placing it on the other side of the fence, where she couldn't see it, but was forced to run into it worked, apparently). I took a cursory look at her before releasing her into the house, to see if she had and medical problems--she seems ok, just scared and scruffy.

Thank you so much for all of your vibes, concern, and advice!!!!

And please, everyone here who is searching for a lost cat: they WILL be found if you're persistent. Please keep this in mind. I was frantic with worry about Gemma, but I didn't give up searching for her, and tried everything I could.
