On Tuesday night I suddenly lost my baby Kirby. He was only eleven months old and hadn't even been sick. I had a short work day and spent the rest of it snuggling with Kirby. I went to bed around 8:30 and had just laid down when I heard a cry from Kirby I'd never heard before. He was laying a foot or so outside my bedroom, crying. He cried for a few seconds and then was very quiet. I yelled his name and rubbed his back. He gasped and breathed a couple times and then was quiet again. I kept yelling his name and petting him and again he gasped for breath. Then he was still...I yelled his name but I knew he was gone. It couldn't have been more than 30 seconds from his first cries. I called the ER vet and they told me I could bring him in even though there was nothing they could do after a 15 minute drive.

Kirby adopted us shortly after our Cookie died. We wanted a young kitten because Cookie was only 6 and we wanted a kitty we could have for many years. We walked into the cat room at the humane society and Kirby ran for the door of his cage, meowing desperately. We knew we had to take him home. He was such a sweet boy and loved nothing more than to be cuddled over your shoulder and walked like a baby. I'm still in shock about this and just wishing I could have helped him and hoping that he wasn't in pain for long.

How awful for you to loose Kirby this way.

I have heard of these things happening and what a shock.

He will not be far from you, because he now liives in your heart.

God bless sweet Kirby.
I am so sorry.

No matter how long they live, they don't live long enough. What a tragic loss for you. I would bet on a heart problem or stroke, not all that uncommon.

RIP Kirby. Play gently at the bridge.

It is always hard to lose our furbabies. It is so tragic what happened to Kirby and I am truly sorry for your loss. I pray your memories will bring you peace and comfort, not tears.

Oh I am so sorry. We lost our adorable marmalade kitten suddenly too, just heartbreaking. Even my husband cried. Please know he is in a good place.
