Radioactive Tuna?!

Sorry, I'm posting this in both the health and nutrition forums. I know it's redundant but this might be critical.

Just started hearing about this. You can bet I'll be paying real close attention to this issue.

Tuna is already laden with mercury and other hard metals, so.. nothing new really.

Will I get super-human swimming powers or be able to talk to fish if I eat it?

If Marvel comics has taught me anything, its that radioactive animals = superpowers.

I was just in Japan and ate quite a bit of tuna... no super powers, I don't glow in the dark, no third eye- nothing like that. Sorry to disappoint!

I'm not disappointed. When were you in Japan? I have friends that live there and it is quite a mess.

I was in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto- we steered well away from the damaged areas. There was no reason for us to go there, and honestly I feel like it would have been disrespectful... so, yeah, we stayed away. I would have liked to go north to see the cherry trees (we did get to see many and they were gorgeous, but I would have liked to see them in full bloom) but unfortunately it just wasn't possible.

Glad you were not affected so much. Traveling around was probably a bit difficult I would imagine. I posted the radioactive link because I'm sure someone will bring it up eventually in one of the forums. Too bad you did not get to see the cherry trees ;(

I hope I didn't offend you with my earlier comment- it was in response to one I found funny about Marvel comics and radiation.

We did see some, but most of the petals were gone- we got there just in time for the super late-blooming ones in Tokyo. By the time we were in Kyoto they were mostly all gone. I was disappointed, but still, it was gorgeous...

... and in order to keep this thread somewhat on-topic, I did see several colonies of ferals in Kyoto! They were being fed some sort of wet food, I didn't get close enough to check- health concerns and all.

LOL - No you did not offend me, nor did Ducman69. I had my tin foil hat on when I posted it. I still think that the tuna migrating back to the states might be a concern but we'll see. I was thinking along the lines of pet food manufacturing when I posted it.

Wonder what the wet food was that they were being fed... Guess we'll never know
